Piano Impromptu No. 2 in G-Minor

Featured Replies

Just playing around with some new chords and textures for the last 2 days.

The piece loosely follows ABA, The middle section uses the relative major, and the ending with a short outro in the tonic.

Anyway, enjoy!

Really good! It was very enjoyable. It reminds me of Beethoven. I have not much to say besides I enjoyed it.

Well, oke, one particular thing I liked was how you let the main theme re-enter, after that B part.

This piece was really out of character for me, especially the B section...I'm trying to expand my tonal palette...this is my third piece for piano...I'm working on it. More to come.. Thanks for the reply! :-)

Yep...

Enjoy the A section but I wish you had the B section go on longer - also the opening measures of the B section had some odd counterpoint that doesn't fit with the piece (it is as if we were in early beethoven and then a little Stravinsky neoclassical peeked out)/

Check your score for ties that do not connect to anything.

Like some of the harmonic surprises and the fact you go between major/minor. I urge you to explore that alternation more and take it to more dissonant degrees.

I would say I did not hear Stravinsky. I had an Brahms experience in measure 67 and 68, dark harmonies.

Its very nice to see you trying to develop. And the best way IMHO is to follow the music history path. So indeed from early beethoven to romaticism. You try to experiment with (to you) exiting harmony. Good, expand it. The B section had an almost impressionistic feel.

I see yo writing in a very basic Form using Repeats. I should advise you to write the repeat out, with a variation. It becomes less like you wrote in in the 'classical' period. Try to vary on your themes. Not only in the development (which you usualy do fine) but more.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This one is the one I wanted to get some feedback on. Very atypical for me in writing. I'm glad both of you enjoyed the experimentation: composerorganist -> the B section's counterpoint, you can tell is off and not in my usual field of rhythm and texture. The chords were all just me improvising much more with chromaticism and suspensions, jrcramer -> I was going for something weirdly impressionistic and off. I like the idea of following the history path. The repeats are dated, I would agree. I think I may step my game up and write into some other well-known Romantic to Impressionism...We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the constructive critiques, everyone. Back to the piano!

This is pretty good. Some of the textures remind me of Chopin scherzos.
