Pagan Warsong

Featured Replies

I actually already posted this piece in the chamber music section, but apparently that link I gave there didn't work, and I realized that it fits this forum more than it does the chamber music's...

This is the result of hearing too much celtic folk music. Don't take it too seriously!

I was wondering whether to post it again in the appropriate forum or not, but a good friend of mine told me this piece was good, so I decide to give it a chance...

Here are the links:

PDF: Pagan Warsong.pdf - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

MP3: Pagan Warsong.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage - This is the output from sibelius, So it doesn't sound too bad. But it doesn't sound very good or real either.

Hope you like it!

(Oh, and about the accents in the 2nd page? above the drum notes? Sorry, I just didn't know how to make sibelius play stronger... oops... :whistling:)

ahaha! so much fun! this was written very well! I'm just thinking if this was performed, the recorders would be overpowered by the drum. Even all 3 of them! >< Never the less, really nice to listen to!

Actually, I'm not so sure they would be. The drum doesn't have to play very strong, only strong enough for the rythme to be heard. And recorders aren't that quiet... Especially in the last part (Which is exactly the same as the first only that the soprano and the alto change parts...:P A little trick that works wonderfully...) where both the alto and the soprano recorder play their higher notes... But I guess you're right. ><

Anyway, this piece is meant to be played outside, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the recording :D

(Let me tell you a little secret: I didn't mean to write this for recorders at all... I thought about bagpipes.)

Thank you for the compliment! It means a lot to me. Even though this piece isn't exactly what I'd call a Hard-thought-about-masterpiece... It was a direct outcome of hearing too much Dervish and seeing a program about Boudica in the History channel...:whistling:

Welcome to YC.

Although Sibelius is primarily a notation program designed specifically for producing scores, it can be made to produce very realistic sounds.

Dynamic markings are the first step in getting a decent sound. Start placing them in your scores and you will begin to see the difference.

This would work nicely with the bagpipes.

I'd tried to, but untill two days ago I just didn't know how... I know now, and in the next pieces I'll try to make an improvement. Thank you for the tips!

Ah, very nice! I like the beat to it, you can't help but tap along..... And the music defiantly captures the idea you wanted.

Good work, keep it up!

I think this would sound so mysterious and chilling with a set of pipes.

Very nice writing.

First of all, thank you. :)

I tried to write this for bagpipes in Sibelius, but for some reason sibelius plays clarinets instead of bagpipes (WTH...?:eyebrow:), so I decided to use recorders, which give a very similar celtic-folk effect (and which I know very well, I play them...)

I liked this a lot.

Sounds really nice.

Definitely got the celtic vibe going on.

I'm really happy that this piece sounds Celtic... Of course I intended it to be, but since I haven't really "grew" on celtic music I had the impression that the piece wouldn't sound celtic to anyone but me... :whistling:

Thank you for the compliment! :D
