Orchestral suit#1 MOV#2 test

hello friends,

i had wanted to test this music hopefully hear some nitpicking. Production is not top quality because i wrote it in score mode, not midi. I followed a formula on it that I'm not sure it works but I'll find out if it gets noticed and bothers you all or not.

Very beautiful!

As for the formula, nothing bothered me.

Seemed to flow very smoothly; each time intensifying a bit.

Enjoyed the strong themes...

I would have to say the strong brass section close to the end was my favorite.

Your renderings sound very professional.

Ok, the only slightly negative comment I could type is it gets a bit long and stays in the same frame of mind. But that's only my 2 cents.

Overall, very impressive.

Great job!

Do you use EWQL?

Thank you Michael! i guess the dragging part is my inexperience to play around when i want to keep it in the same starting key. i used vsl all the way.

The VSL strings are fantastic, even in score mode. I wish I could afford them.

I am a mathematician so I do enjoy formulas and without them, music could not exist in a structured manner.

Not sure though what you mean by score mode. Do you mean that you added notes by mouse or that this was composed in a notation program and then taken into a sequencer?

Very nice piece.

Ron thank you for commenting! i did this in score mode in logic and then touched its midi a bit. the score mode in logic sucks and i still don't have my markings done. Yes vsl is very nice and worth my entire salary of last year...lol. like you wishing to have vsl, i wish i could afford to get and learn sibilous or finally. unfortunately i don't have the funding for it :( thanks again for listening!

So since this is not getting a lot of response, I'm very curios what is wrong with it! i hope to hear it. i don't take criticism personally, i learn from opinions.

I have to agree 100%. And again, sounded like it should go in a movie... maybe if my book gets published and turns into a movie, I can use some of your music :)

How much have you responded to other works?

No, not mine. Just in general...

But I'm sure Ron would agree, people will most likely return the favor if you comment on their music.

Just a thought ... nothing personal.

this one are very similar to god creating the spacing , you just use the chord progression cycle to repeat again and again without stoping , this will make me a bit boring

dark,

i think those two are way different. this piece is actually older than God creating space music for the record. and i don't think i repeat my chord progression except for when I'm playing the same theme. the structure i took is that i play the theme three times on every time i add something new instrument and harmonizing wise. in betweens are suppose to be not the same chord progression.

keep going !! . compose is fun , my friend

I think the second violin is to loud, drowning out the first one. Other than that, I have noe complaints. I don't hear same themes really to be quite honest, maybe it's because you use different instruments, but it all sounds different!

Thanks for your comment. yeah I had that on purpose but thats because I wanted the vibratos to be up there so its more a production problem than instrument composition problem. should not be like that if it were to be performed which is what I hope for it. thanks again for listening!

I enjoyed this piece however for me its about 3 or 4mins too long as the music doesnt really change that much. The 1st 3mins are very nicely done, but then the next 3mins just feel like musical padding without much invention. When we get to the 6min mark it gets a bit more interesting, and then the last 2mins or so returns to the similar sound of the 1st 3 to 6 mins.

If it was me id get rid of 3mins worth of music from the 1st 6mins. As it does get a bit boring, im sure it would work as background music but as purely music it just lacks creative spark.

But again your piece is very nicely orchestrated, i just feel your better at short pieces of say 3 to 4 mins as your musical ideas for me dont quite justify being 9mins in length.

Thank you for the comment. You pretty much pointed to me what i was worried about. repeating the main theme three times. i guess the intro theme or that theme that i repeat three times didn't capture you enough. thanks for the input!

very nice...samples sound great..orchestrated very well i must say, no instrument dominates and no instrument is "forgotten" about. develops well, building tension all the while.

I think perhaps the end sequence could be a bit stronger to release all the tension. go out with all guns blazing i'd say! well done though.

Thank you for listening sabiansoldier. I pretty much feel the same, that the ending needs a a boost and that's where I'm focusing on right now. Thanks again for your feed back.

This piece should definitely be getting more attention on this forum. The only critique I could make is that the form is slightly homogeneous, but as a backdrop score (which is what I see this being used as) that doesn't really matter. Great use of orchestration and fantastic rendering - maybe the best synthetic performance I've heard to date on YC.

I do think VSL overdoes the vibrato a bit. No one seems to be able to produce a vaguely realistic string synth without doing that, unfortunately.

Hehe 3/4...the easiest time measure to compose I think...but I like 3/4 cause its pulse, this can be very powerful. The piece is just wundersch

Oops sorry about the late reply! i thought the thread was dead.

Thank you for listening. I agree with the homogeneous comment for the version you guys are listening too. Hopefully the updated one will solve that problem. I love to over do vibrato on certain execution of strings. Your pretty much right though. A non vibrato sample string even in the best librarys doesn't sound very good.
