September 12, 200916 yr Hello everyone, It's been a while since I last posted anything, so I thought I would do just that. This piece, God of War, is a battle theme for a game I have been working on called Epsilon-Alpha. Some may remember that I posted the http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/epsilon-alpha-theme-20986.html a few months ago. The soundtrack is almost entirely based on the main theme with the exception of a few other themes that provide conflictions every once in a while. I think that God of War is a good example of this. The name God of War is given to this piece because the main character of this game uses a weapon called the ARES, giving reminisce to the Olympic God of War bearing that same name. Anyway, here is the link to the piece: God of War: Start Player Alternate link (just click play hi-fi to listen): SoundClick artist: sswave - page with MP3 music downloads Hope you enjoy it! Any comments or advice are welcomed. Thank you for listening! P.S. For any of you that are interested, I have just completed part 1 of the Epsilon-Alpha soundtrack (the game is split into three parts) which will be available whenever that part is publically released (currently TBA 2009.)
September 12, 200916 yr Author Hm, that's strange. Try the alternate link I have provided, it leads to the host site instead of directly to the player. Just click play hi-fi to listen after clicking the link.
September 12, 200916 yr I liked this a lot, especially the brass section. My favorite bit is the around !:30 ish. I also liked the snare drum in the beginning. Sounds good .
September 12, 200916 yr Sunny First off (at least I didn't say fist off this time ;) ), I will say that this piece works great alongside the other pieces you have posted and sounds great as is. I have 2 suggestions and if you are limited in programs like I am, you will not be able to do either one. I like the way the brass starts low in the mix and then gets louder. That works great, I just was hoping that they would even get louder in the mix. I know how difficult that can be without having them clip. It seems like I am always fighting that same problem. I know that brass can be made to be louder, but I just don't have the right compressors/limiters/experience to get them up to the level I would like without sacrificing volume everywhere else. The other thing is the percussion from around 1:40 on. I wish that those hits could be louder and more pronounced as well. But that runs into having the samples that can do those big hollywood style hits. SD2 from EWQL has the kind of hits that I was looking for, but that's like $400. I'm sure you would like that as well. Both of those ideas are just nit-picking and I know that if we had the high end programs we would still find other things that we want/need to have to get the sounds that we really want. Great work!! Ron
September 14, 200916 yr Author Hey guys, Thanks for commenting! Wendell: Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you liked it! Ron: I just don't have the right compressors/limiters/experience to get them up to the level I would like without sacrificing volume everywhere else. That says it all. I can get the louder sound with the brass, but it will really eat up all the other instruments playing and make sort of a nuisance of itself. However, there are somethings I can do such as lower the reverb and pan it more towards the center to make it sound slightly closer and clearier than the other instruments. Although I don't know that will do much because I only have EWQLSO Silver and Silver XP which does not have the mic position controls and as you may know, the brass is very uncooperative in affords to fine tune it in EWQLSO. I currently am unable to purchase any more realistic samples, but if I could I would try to get my hands on Project Sam's Brass Orchestra which could give me that sound. As far as the drums, I can tweak the compression and bass to get a bigger more fuller sound. Perhaps I will look into that. And yes, unfortunately nothing is as good as the real thing, orchestra or otherwise. I suppose we always have that special music player in our heads that seems to be able to pull that off, right? :P Thanks again for your comments! They are greatly appreciated.
September 14, 200916 yr Magnificent! Liked the brass the best........they were packed with the wow factor. Did drag on a little at the end, but suppose a player wouldn't care anyway :)
September 17, 200916 yr Great! I liked this a lot! Keep posting, and I can't wait to hear more! P.S why did it stop so suddenly?
