April 29, 200619 yr Hello composers! Here is a piece of a "baroque" suite that Im writing. I dont know the structure of a gigue. Can somebody tell me if this piece is a true gigue? thanks! :w00t: anyway I enjoyed writing that String Fugue in G Minor.pdf giga2.mid
April 29, 200619 yr Well, I know next to nothing about composition. But I can tell you that this does seem to be very gigue-like in its 6/8 time and very dance-like rhythm. As for a form; gigues are normally two-reprise binary forms, and as with many other dances, this is all it really needs to be "formally".
April 29, 200619 yr Hey, I REALLY enjoyed that piece. I thnik you did a rather great job on it. i guess i'll leave the critiques to the pros =)
May 6, 200619 yr The gigue or giga is a lively baroque dance in a compound metre such as 6/8, 9/8 or 12/16. I don't think there is a set structure of Gigues as Bach's definately varied. You are safe to call this a Gigue provided its in the one of those time signatures. A really good work. Perhaps you can add a second half though with some inversions or moulation. I have been pleased with what I have heard of your works so far. I hope to hear more. Jeremy
