My Filmusik Competition Entry

Featured Replies

Hey, Everyone:

I'm not sure if I have the right category for this, but it seemed to make sense to me anyway.

Awhile back there was a competition sponsored by Filmusik (in Oregon) to compose music for a short clip from the movie Gamera vs. Guiron. I had always wanted to try out the Movie Window in Finale and thought this might be an interesting place to start! So I did.

Here's the link to the competition site that includes the 4 entries which were submitted. Mine is the first -- under my name, Brian Sagraves.

I went with a fairly traditional symphonic type score for this. The other entries are a mix of different styles, all very interesting. Although I only had less than 2 minutes to work with, I tried to develop some themes that could otherwise be worked throughout the movie perhaps.

So if you're interested, please visit the site and see what I came up with. I hope you enjoy all the entries, by the way. Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

I liked the music by itself, however I didnt feel that 100% of the time the music was completely reflecting what was going on in the clip. Some moments were misleading of what was going on and other were just not intense enough for the scene.

It still was very good music though.

Welcome to YC. This is the place to post such material.

I just noticed you joined quite a while back, but I hope this time you decide to stick around and join in a bit more.

As you said this is very typical music for this style and it is put together very well.

I enjoyed it.

Dear Tyler and Ron:

Thanks for taking the time to listen. I appreciate it very much. And I'm glad you liked the music overall. You know, as traditional as it may seem, this is something I never would have thought to write until only recently. It's much more daring harmonically than I was used to, believe it or not!

Tyler, I think your criticism is certainly fair, and I understand your point about the music perhaps not always illuminating what is going on in the film. This was a fun challenge to try, and I may revisit it sometime to see if I can do better. Thanks again for taking time to listen.

Ron, I've been around for awhile. Actually I've been learning quite a bit from you all here! And I'll chime in from time to time, too! (Thanks for the invitation)

Sincerely,

Brian
