Christmas Piece for school concert

Featured Replies

ok, so I have written a song to be performed at the Christmas concert my high school is having.A friend named Ben is doing another piece, you know him as TheMaskedTrumpeter.I am having trouble naming the piece and would like help. Also, any feedback would be great.

Thank you

-Patrick

"Darkness Upon Jerusalem"

just kidding.

um...

"The Kings' Carol"

"Bells to/of Their Arrival"

Reminds me somewhat of a video game piece... lol.

Enjoyed the Trombone solo opening (GO TROMBONE!!!)

Not as much appealing as a band piece, the way you used the high woodwinds, seems kind of like one might use strings in an orchestra?

But beside that, it was good ^^

Please post a PDF of the score. Not all of us have Finale.

"The Kings' Carol" is pretty sweet, thank you.

Ding! Fries are done! Ding! Fries are done! Ding! Fries are done! Ding! Fries are done!

LOL! This is the most bizarre christmas music I've ever heard! That bass drum sounds death metal! And this is the first time I've heard a melody on a horn/bell pairing! Tokkemon is right, we don't all have finale and its sometimes hard to hear what instruments the midi sounds are meant to be.

"Darkness Upon Jerusalem" sounds fitting! I can't get the metal conotations out of my head.

I am not a fan of this arrangement.

I can see what you are going for and you do it well however it just doesnt do anything for me.

Its very Transiberian orchestra-ish with the guitar, bass guitar and the way you arranged your percussion to sound like a trap set. This piece sounds so much like Transiberian orchestra that the only people that will really get a kick out of this are the fans of Transiberian orchestra.

Another thing I didnt like is how hollow it sounded. Carol of the Bells has a lot of lush harmonies and counterpoint melodies that give it that opulence feel. This lacks it and looking at how its arranged I can tell that it will sound even more hollow live.

I can see that you know how to write and that you have solid ideas, however I just not a fan of this arrangement. Which is sad because Carol of the Bells is my FAVORITE Christmas tune.

Im sure that people will love it when it is performed, just not me...sorry

I wouldn't even compare this to trans siberian orchestra, however this does seem sort of copy/paste a time with the arrangement.

I also noticed that the song became less and less about we three kings, and more and more about, Ukranian Bell Carol.

You should try to keep both themes prevalent throughout the piece, if not, at least make whatever is going on interesting.

This piece lacks excitement,

there isn't anything drastically wrong writing-wise,

but this is just one of those "look at your watch wondering when this is gonna end," kind of pieces.

Sorry, just my take.
