Medley of themes from movies

Featured Replies

Hey-

This has been an ongoing project for quite some time, I finally finished it. It's just a medley of a bunch of themes from movies, I was trying to see how many of them could fit together well. Software: EWQLSO Gold, MOR, Logic 8 Pro. Comments welcome.

Hey There,

Your horn section sounds very good ^^ which specific .nki file is it? I think you did the LOTR piece very well!

There is one problem, though: I dont think the changes between themes went very fluently... You might should consider putting something of yourself between two themes to make the sound of the entire piece procede more fluently. I hope you understand what I mean :)

Hi Jigaatt-

Thanks! I'm using the PLAY edition, but I think that the Kontakt version has the same patches. I used the French horns bright, marcado, and mellow. Yes, I know what you mean about the themes not flowing fluently, I'm writing a second version of it.

Ok thx for sharing :) You have patches of the solo horn too? I am actually really curious how you would do in a piece with mainly french horns. You happen to be making a piece with them soon :)?

Yes, I do have plenty, and I use them often. I could write a piece just for horns if you want one, it could be an interesting project.

Very Interesting and enjoyable compilation......

The style's.....there were some which I didn't like as much as others, but hey, taste differs. I liked the Stars Wars and the Star Trek themes best out of this selection - it played to the strengths of your samples, and if I wasn't focusing, I might have thought that it was live!!

However, I'm not sure whether you were aiming for realism, but by far the biggest problem with this is realism issues. First and foremost, EWQLSO Gold, Choirs, Stormdrum, Ministry of Rock are designed for realism. One of their key strengths (at least, I assume) is the HUGE amount of velocity layers. On the contrary, these seem to use very few different velocity layers. There are some individual parts that sound convincing. However, this is only seems convincing when there are lots of different instruments, section etc. put together. The flaws become more apparent with solo instruments, where it begins to sound more synthetic, which you DO NOT want in things such as this. Subtle changes in velocity are easily noticed by the human ear, and really take the realism factor up a notch.

You can ignore that if you're going to record it live. However, your libraries are good enough, if used well, to imitate a orchestra extremely well, to the stage that you'd need a trained ear to tell that it was sampled.

On the other hand, orchestration is pretty good, and for 14, lots of time to sort out these tiny niggles :) (I'm only 13  ) You've got a bright future ahead of you!!!

Why dont you guys go play outside? ^_^ I think its really great you have such a hobby already at such a young age :) Keep on going guys!

I am already 20 years old, and started this when I was 18 I think :S. Although I do play the acoustic guitar since I was 8.

Cheeselord-well, I officially lose my title as youngest person haha. I've been trying to use more samples, most of it is me not being able to keep track of them, even when I label them, but its just something im trying to work out.
