Backwards. The song title actually makes sense!

So, I, SebastiYOW!, have made another song. This one is called Backwards and I think you'll know why when you hear it. I could really use some feed back and criticism from people who really know what they're doing (that would be most of you). Speak your mind, leave nothing back. Good or bad advice, I'll take it. Here are some key things I want you to answer.

1. Do you think the song would be better with out the string quartet?

2. How's the sound quality?

3. Overall, WHAD JA THINK?

Here's a link to the song and it's attached to this post.

Well, I don't know if I know what I'm talking about but I'll reply with some quick points anyway:

-To me, the distorted bass drum doesn't fit (to my ears). I would suggest the kind of 'scrappy' drums you get in electronica. I can't describe what I mean but I'll post up an example if I find out.

-You need to quantize! The different parts are really not tight enough. I don't mean to be insulting but you should get someone else to play the piano if you struggle with timing. Sometimes dodgy timing can add to the charm of a piece (I love this one ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_6ROdXW1L8 ), but it doesn't here.

-Loved the piano sound. Is it a live recording? Are the really loud 'off-tuned' notes at 0:44 intended. I think the tuning gives it a nice feel but I wouldn't emphasise it like that.

-On the mixing front, I didn't think the different parts gelled together enough. I think the drums are mostly at fault here (as stated above).

Overall, great sound! You rarely hear the piano used with dancy rhythms but it works!

And what string quartet?

And what string quartet?

1. And by quantize you mean....

2.The piano is live (everything, including the drums, is except for the crash symbol and bass)

3. I suppose I could change the drums

4. You know, those violins... that's what I meant bystring quartet.

Thanks for your thoughts, though!
