a slow piece for a small string ensemble, piano, drums, english horn and bass clarinet

Interesting instrumentation. It is very tranquil in the beginning, yet mysterious. I like it :) I love how the jazzy feel is very slowly introduced into the piece. The drum set has an interesting lag feel to it, contrasts well with the piano and strings' rhythm. I like it, good job :)

I really enjoyed this piece. Was there any specific inspiration for it?

I wanted to see what would happen if I combined the colors of jazz chords with the progressions of the more classical approach, and the piano solo in the beginning just sort of flowed out of me, I don't really know haha

Reckoner,

First off, welcome to the forum! I hope you stick around and put in the time to comment on the music of other people... :whistling:

I like your piece - it's got a very nice texture and feel to it. That mysterious ethereal approach is a modern (European) jazz-type style, closely associated with the ECM record label... You'll find a lot of cats on there that are using unorthodox ensembles/instrumentation and a more classical framework for jazz -oriented musics.

Nice work ... Yours in particular could use a lot more development and direction, but the basic elements of some solid music are there for sure.

Excellent, interesting choice of instrumentation. This would be be even better for me if the drums were taken out.
