strings gently weep 1.5

I developed strings gently weep theme into something longer

strings gently weep 1.5

Very nice. I'm not quite sure I heard a -theme- in the commonly-viewed expression of the word. What I did hear I liked very much though.

One thing to keep in mind about themes are how simple they are to listen to and to look at. Now, I didn't see a score, but I'm quite sure that if I did, I wouldn't really be able to separate the "theme" from the ambiance around it (the harmony, the rhythmic values, and the overall effect of the progression of the piece all skew the memorability of the theme itself). So, take this into consideration when you're creating or wanting to make a "theme" in your work. Keep it simple.

Like I said, I really enjoyed what I heard, but I didn't -hear- a theme in the way that I would be able to remember it as a listener. That's all. :)

maybe you would here theme in my other work - just three years throught

Maybe. Like I said, I enjoyed what I heard, I just don't hear a -theme- as I would expect to hear something that is melodically more memorable and less transitory, which is how I hear this.

You're using great harmonies, by the way. It brings to mind a sense of floating in air, space, or even time, perhaps.

Have you noticed that either strings gently weep 1.5 and strings gently weep 2 I used only major chords no minor no diminished, So there are many chords but only major. This is a thing I often here in works of Thomas Newman which is my favourite composer ever

what do you think about 'just three years throught' ? I made something a lot more harmonically complex then those that you already heared, It is named 'random fuge' and it is pointless chaotic mess though

I don't listen to a lot of Thomas Newman, but I knew there was something interesting about the harmonies you were using. Another thing you can think about is raising the fifth in some of the chords where you want to emphasize moments of your theme. Augmenting chords has just as much effect as collapsing (or diminishing) them in creating gravitational motion within your harmonic progression, so if you want to incorporate some gravitational aspects to the progression (to emphasize certain moments of this -theme- more, enhancing the variety of the theme and hopefully evoking more interest from the listener), that's another way you can do it. Remember to use extensions when you do (to maintain the asymmetry of the sonorities) as you're using asymmetric triads (all major chords are asymmetric, whereas all augmented chords w/o extensions like 7ths, 9ths, and 11ths are symmetric/equal-interval chords). Without extensions in augmented chords, you wind up distorting your sonority more than enhancing it. Just a suggestion.

EDIT: What does "throught" mean?

Sorry, I meant through. It's my English :) Thanks for the lecture. I will try to use augmented chords, like I said I have no idea about composition, i just attended piano lessons for several years.

What does sonority mean?

What does sonority mean?

Sonority is simply the sound that forms from the harmonies you use. Sonority can refer to single chords or to a piece as a whole depending on how individual chords are used. Keep in mind that tonal harmony is not the only -sonority- in music. There are about as many styles or idioms of music as their are stars in the sky. The style you're working in is kind of an off-shoot of the traditional tonal system, only you're limiting your harmonies to only major chords (or to put the term into context, limiting yourself to a -sonority- that consists of solely major chords). Make sense?

I agree with AA that there a great harmonies. The Idea of floating and a vague tonal center appeal to me.

What I do not like so much is that you are using 3 threads. There is a "Strings gently weep", a version 1.5 and a version 2. Please pick one thread and update it, in stead of flooding the forum with multiple (unfinished) versions of your work.

Ok, this sounded maybe a bit more harsh than its meant. ;)

At last I would encourage you to listen to the works of others too, and comment on them. That increases the chances of more reviews of your own ;)

It is harsh, especially because there is a way to reupload your media file. The correct way to do this is to go to the original post of your work, follow the link to your profile/location of your work on the network, and select 'edit' under the title of your work.

When you do, you're taken to the screen that you filled out information on your work. At the bottom of this screen is a red hyperlink - "Reupload the media file" - where you can then reupload your file and make any edits to the categories/genres you originally selected, add tags, etc.

Be sure you're doing this in the future, fret! We're all aware that composition is a process, and don't be afraid to post your works when they're incomplete. That's why this forum is here, to help give you ideas so you can complete your works. :)

I like this quite a bit: the melody mixed with that ambiance of the other strings makes for a very silky texture that is strangely hypnotic. I'm glad you decided to lengthen it some!

Thanks for sharing! :)
