Bridal Procession/ March

Featured Replies

This is a short bridal march for a friend. I have to do 2 more of these so they can chose.. but I really like this one. Tell me what you all think!

Bridal Procession/ March

I think it has a nice style for what you are going for. I dont know if you plan on having actual musicians or not, (hopefully so) but the mix doesn't seem great to me as it stands as if I am not looking at the score I am not always sure what you are going for..maybe it is just that I can't have my speakers loud enough right now. I have a hard time thoroughly reviewing something like this as it is not my favorite style, but I think your friend will be pleased. It is always good to be able to compose in multiple styles even if it is not the most original.

This sounds very nice, genuinely, but I think that if your trying to make it a bridal procession sort of thing...I don't really think so. The tone of it is too "light", too "airy"...This is going to be a commitment for the rest of their lives (optimistically speaking), so I think that it should have a little more substance to it, instead of being only background music. (But not as annoying bombastic as the usual Bridal Chorus theme, which has never ceased to be a thorn in my side..."Here comes the bride, big, fat and wide!" Ugh) But this all largely depends on the groom's and bride's tastes, and whether THEY want a less subdued theme, so that is the truly important factor here. You may want to consider making a waltz: a waltz is something that has the connotation of dancing romantically, also in an emotional, abstract way, not just physically...

Thank you for uploading, I enjoyed listening to this! :D

Thanks guys for listening. The groom really likes the sound of this - and as she is my friend - I know this is well within her style. I think its sentimental yet eloquent. I have to write 2 more though.

Ben: My style is traditional for the most part. I am able to compose more modernly - just choose not to (I don't really find it to be challenging as this is to me.) In regards to this piece, I did offer both options to them - and they chose the more traditional. Which, I understand.. giving its a wedding.

Serge: I agree, this is light. I think that really assists it though in serving that sentimental moment of the woman walking down the aisle. I am planning on also composing three dances to go with this - upon request. That will provide music for the bridal procession down the aisle AND a dance after. Funny, you said waltz... cause that's what I was thinking of doing..lol

You are correct about it being challenging to compose in a traditional sense..I think it is challenging to write well in any style and the more ways that you can market yourself, the better. Particularly for a wedding, this is a clear choice. I don't think composing in one style or another makes you sound original..actually that statement sounds ridiculous since if you are strictly in a given style, you are not original

Very true. I made some very original choices compared to what has been done before in this particular genre. For instance, the fact I chose to do something eloquent and simple as opposed to bombastic and majestic. My use of melody and conciseness. From a purely listeners viewpoint, this is quite an original composition imo. I write what I want to write - if I chose to do one style or another depends purely on my mood... is it the same for you?

This definitely feels like a "Spring" wedding :). If that was your intention then it was well done. I do think that since there was a repetition of the material that you could have altered the harmony a bit without taking away from the sweet and eloquent simplicity that you wanted.
