Latest news: I'm very likely to finish the first movement THIS WEEK!

I've now sketched to the end of the movement, though most of the time between where I last left off and the end of the movement are just a skeleton. Basically, from 6:13 onward this is not complete.

Here we go... (final length: 7:05, maybe a bit short for a piece of this scale, but hey, I think it's a pretty densely packed movement)

From 6:13 onward the cello part has not been written, and everything from 6:18 onward (3 measures or so) is uncertain.

I'm mainly interested in two things:

1) How well does the added material (from 5:51 onward) fit into the overall form, given that I have already recapitulated the 1st major theme?

2) From 5:54 to 6:07. the viola needs to be noticed... would the violin and cello playing in octaves for most of that time necessarily drown it out in actual performance?

I'll try my best.

1) I enjoyed the added material - right off from 5:51 it was very exciting. I was sad when it stopped. (I just wrote that prior to the latest "skeleton update") . Actually, I wasn't paying attention to the time and I looked up just after the part with my eyebrows raised (in a good way) to see that it was right about the time you'd left off before. It builds nicely from that point.

Anyway, now that I heard the sketched out ending.

I think it works pretty well. I look forward to hearing it completed - what are you planning on doing with the cello part? Do you usually write out a line or two at a time and add other instruments later (just curious, I like to know how people work).

2) The viola, etc. -- It was drowned out a bit when I listened to it, but by playing with the dynamics it shouldn't be a problem. I adjusted my volume meters on the violin and cello and the viola resonated out very nicely. I like the dark sound of a viola carrying that part, actually.

okay, so I'm impatient now. Are you done with the first movement? :)

I promise I'll not mess up and claim I like the part at 8:08 or something equally stupid.
