its actually good and epic , but i suggest you give the double bass more things to do not just playing the basic note of the chords . you should post the score so that you could get more helpful reviews.

Hey, that was great! I loved the epic sounding aspect, especially in the violin's sixteenth notes patterns. I felt that this had the epic main theme, but also the melodic parts that every songs needs, which you put nicely in the flutes and clarinets by the way, but you also kept the epic feeling in the background when these melodic parts came along, something few manage to do.

I have two suggestions though, one would be to add some brass. I didn't hear them at all, so if you do have them make them louder, as brass would make any epic violin melody even more epic, simply adding it as a double after a few bars of only violin, all though I'm sure you could think of something better than just doubling.

The second is the ending, I think it should end in a giant clash at the climax of the piece, and not die out as it did. It was a beautiful ending for sure, it just didn't suit this piece.

Your ideas here sound really good - however, a score would really assist in tackling the nitty gritty details that this sound file doesn't seem to play well at all. Any chances you could post a score

It is good, I suggest you to modulate into different tonalities (keys) that would help and expand your development, also I agree you should add brass, if you wrote that I'm sure you can handle brass instruments too. Mayba a little bit of higher violins segments would be good, oh¡ percussions ¡¡¡

And if you really want to make it "dramatic" you should get into more complex harmony, unless you don't want to leave very much away from "classical" but you can surely find something in between.

I agree with most of the above. I have to say I loved the interplay (cello/clarinet/flute) around 1 min.

Not bad, it's souds like a Conan Barbarian theme

i like the way you used the lower voices in parts to state the theme, i liked your chord progression! would you consider using vst's? and nice touch with the accordion btw! very nice work man!

Hey all, thanks for the helpful responses!

i will upload the score asap. i'm not exactly sure yet how to do it - should i convert to pdf file? (it's in mus right now).

impresario - thanks for the recommendation. i definitely think brass would have helped this piece. also.... i don't like the ending either. it's lame. but i just wanted to put it up so i can get some feedback, and then go back and improve it :)

A score would be most appreciated! PDF should work to upload.

I like your ambition and musicality. It certainly has the flair of a Beethoven overture or Romantic Symphony, however, I sense a lack of training in the technical side of music. While the melodies are nice and work as is, it gets boring a little too quickly because you don't change up your harmony very much. Its the same four or five chords over and over. I wanted to hear some dramatic chords and harmonic shifts where you aren't expecting it to go in the direction you take it. That, in my mind, is the true mark of dramaticism. I don't know if that is ignorance or just lack of technique. Either way, I encourage you to look into harmonic development. Your melodies are good (some are better than others), but that harmony needs spice and flavor. To use a cooking analogy, you have the white rice. Now make it into a stir fry by adding in all sorts of goodies.

Good luck and Happy Composing!

There is a sense of dramatic flair that is trying to come through. However, I don't feel that you should consider this piece "done" or "complete" just yet. I think this would be a great piece to go back to after doing some more harmonic studies. I also think that the "drama" will be of a greater effect of you take into consideration the form of the piece such as moments of transition, what repeats and how as well as how often, variations on your ideas ect. This is a good effort. But once you have grown a little more musically perhaps you should either revisit this work or perhaps compose another one like this one with new found understanding and ability.

:)
