Relaxation for String Quartet

Featured Replies

One day I was listening to the radio and "Morning Mood" from Greig's Peer Gynt Suite. I guess that sort of rubbed off on me when I wrote this piece (I had the first few measures already composed).

Anyway, this piece, while not "supposed" to sound like anything, I think sort of portrays a restful scene.

This took me approximately two days to compose (about 5 hours total). There's no definate structure.

Thanks in advance!

Evan

It took me some time before I could figure out what song was about: early spring morning at downtown river.

Well, a nice piece I must say! :P

Great piece! It is very relaxing, I can picture a waterfall flowing in my head

Well, thank you both. Any more comments? I would appreciate some more in depth reviews. :ninja:

Diffficult to give an in-depth reveiw but for what it's worth....

It's a lovely piece - translucent - some nifty scoring with the way you distribute some figures among the players. And thanks for the score in .pdf - I could see it!

A few bars could benefit by rebalancing to let important themes through. Like bars 30-38, the broken chord figure in the upper strings is partly obscured by the chords. Similarly bars 50-56, in fact the viola entry at 50 goes almost unnoticed. Quietening the backing chords a gnats would be enough.

You could consider a more moblie viola and cello part at the beginning but that's more stylistic as it would undoubtedly complicate the otherwise simple aesthetic.

So, it's up to you.

Very relaxing, indeed :) ! The mood totally gets you, it
