Name of an Instrument...

I'd really like to know the name of the instrument in this sample - it's the metallic hit that plays about 6 times, and slightly panned to the left.

The whole extract sounds played with samples and the metallic sound is almost certainly processed so it's anyone's guess and could be produced in several ways. It might be an anvil* deliberately kept back in the mix - but then with filtering and half-speeding it might be a xylophone. My limited experience with electroacoustic music tells me that even a saucepan could be made to sound like that or or someone striking metal with a club hammer.

*They've been used in symphony orchestras - Bax Sym No 3 comes to mind - just one, highly effective stroke. Also popular bands - Hawkwind: The Forge of Vulcan from "Spirit of the Age."

Sounds like an anvil to me. Perhaps some industrial sound effect. Whatever it is, the sample's not very good so it's hard to tell...

Sounds like an anvil to me, too. It might also be a brake drum, stopped so it won't ring.

I agree, it's not quite an anvil (but thanks for the suggestion anyway - I've been able to create a vaguely similar sound by applying distortion and reverb to an anvil).
