February 26, 201016 yr This piece was submitted as a competition to write short piece for the Australian String Quartet. 6 pieces were chosen to be workshopped and 3 were chosen to be performed in our uni's lunch hour series. Composition-wise, I use a lot of canon in unison to create some sort of atmosphere. I guess this is because during the presentation they give to us composition students, they said that as a string quartet, their favourite thing to do is to play melody. I've tried to make every single lines they play some sort of melody. I've uploaded this before, but it was before YC changed a fair bit, so I thought I'd reupload this. Enjoy =) Darkening
February 27, 201016 yr very nice indeed - evocative - tonal but not too predictable. i love the canon on the same pitch - that kind of blending sound is fab. this is also very well conceived. 10 out of 10 hones:
February 27, 201016 yr Wow, this is great. I love the calm and soothing texture you manage to produce with the string quartet.
February 27, 201016 yr 11. This is so cool . I'm at a loss for words right now; so rather than continuing my post speaking gibberish, I'll end it here.
February 28, 201016 yr Yes, the cool factor here is through the roof on this one, seriously! I really can't quite put my finger on what this composition makes me feel: sort of...ahhhhh, brooding, but not really...ummmmmm, longing? ... Really, I can't tell: it feels very confused to me :hmmm: But regardless, the unpredictable movement of the strings, working together in such a way, really drew me in. Thanks for sharing, this was very cool!
March 1, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the comments, guys! =D I really appreciate them. @Serge. Yeah, I am always interested in knowing what my piece is about. I can sort of guess, but it's weird, always feels like it's what I am feeling at the time I wrote it but I don't even know what it is. I can only guess. And what others say about it is interesting to me. I hope there are people who can tell me what my pieces are about.
March 21, 201015 yr I can sort of guess, but it's weird, always feels like it's what I am feeling at the time I wrote it but I don't even know what it is. If thats the case, then you should make note of what it is you are feeling when you are writing this and take that emotion into consideration. I do think that this song has a beautiful yet mysterious tone to it since everyone seems to be so mesmerized by it's sheer beauty yet unable to describe it.
April 14, 201015 yr Did you win the competition then?? I deserves top place! I can imagine an empty church with it. Beautiful. www.samcho.net
April 15, 201015 yr Good work! My favorite is the section leading up to 4:00 where the harmonies go from more diatonic to more chromatic at a particularly climactic part of the piece.
September 20, 201015 yr hones: This is really nice! This is one I would love to put on my Ipod! Great work!
November 20, 201015 yr This is very nice. Do you mind if I use it with my string quartet? Were a group of high school students who will be playing at school events and out in the community. Do you have each individual part that i could print out?
