Gaelic Passages

Featured Replies

I wrote this with a vision of life in the renaissance. It is divided into five main parts: The Hunt, The Cathedral, The Castle, The Joust, and The Celebration. For advanced trumpet trio with snare drum. Dedicated to Jessica Retzlaff.

Egad, what terrible midi!!!   I absolutely hate its portrayal of the horns: I'd rather hear nails on a chalkboard :eyebrow:

Fortunately the music itself is nice, and whimsical feeling: sort of a mock-serious "let's go hunting" vibe, I think. The timpani has a nice rhythm, which complements the horns well :) I just wish the midi did it better justice.

Thanks for sharing maestro :D

The writing is really quite nice and I think this would be a great trio for advancing high school trumpeters to play that they would probably enjoy. I am a little bit confused by your title...I don't hear anything Irish in nature in this music at all. However, it is good writing.

Ooops, I thought 'Gaelic' meant like celtic or rennaissance, sorry for any confusion, next time I'll look up the words I put in my titles.

Yes not quite Gaelic and I am Irish, I should know. Nice work here - some typical renaissance fayre :) Midi not great but hey if you could afford Sibelius Sounds Im sure you'd get it. Your fanfare is interesting enough too - as fanfares can be quite limited. I hear a christmassy quality to the second part. Some of my friends, the modal harmonies in there too and I would even add more along those lines too. Consider more gap scales and flatten sevenths and also you don't overdo the parallel 5ths which is good. My favourite part is the lively bit 2/3rds of the way through. I could have heard more of that :Phones:

Nice modulation at J! That was very clever! I would work on varying your melodies a little further within the sections- although I can see you already doing this. Also, typically you leave the higher parts to 1st/2nd trumpet (high C is pretty tough for anyone, let alone a 3rd trumpet!). Also, if you plan on editing this, I would try to smooth the gaps between the different sections- make them flow smoothly into one another. Don't just start and stop a new section. Other than these few things, very nice job! I liked your chords, especially in "the Cathedral"...and the key change was nice at E.
