Piece for Orchestra

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I wrote this sketch thing a few months ago, but don't know what to do with it since I last worked on it. The piece, imo, has way too many ideas and no development whatsoever. I reckon the beginning is much better than later towards the end of the piece.

So, it would be great if you have any suggestions and thoughts on this. Thanks =)

I think it builds quite nicely from the beginning, having a feeling of a long sustained crescendo throughout the ensemble and builds nicely through the use of increased instrumentation, faster moving passages, and range..quite nice. Then...the piu mosso...that section really doesn't quite work for me yet..I think the idea is ok, it sounds like you want a bit of a break apart thing while before you introduce the quite cool motif in the flute and go on the little minimalist section, but I think the section before could happen much quicker. Then with that flute idea, you give it to various members and develop the orchestra around it in a minimalist style quite nicely, but I think you leave it too quickly actually. I think you should allow it to morph rather than suddenly switch. I also like your next idea. I actually don't think you have too many ideas here, but I think the transition from what I am calling the minimalist idea to the moving sixteenths after should have more of a morph into each other, yet make it exciting. I'm not going to suggest where to go next, but I think you have some great writing overall here.
