Deplorable World orchestra

Luckily C.S. Lewis is very descriptive in his writing.

Unfortunately, the midi doesn't play what i wanted it to for the first few bars; thus you hear a log drone being played for 12 bars. Take note its supposed to be people breathing into their instruments for a wind sound.

okok now i listen to the midi; the gong is replaced by a tin can. whatever ill see if i can make a pdf of the score,

but here it is, probably one of my favs of my own stuff

Hi, first of all looking at your score, you need to realize the intrument range. For one, the bass doesn't go that low. You hold your chords too long I think, and that creates boring atmosphere.

Now, I'm no expert (opposite specturm actually), but your structure seems very random, as if you're trying to put all your ideas into one piece. I also have this problem, and I'm still working hard on it.

Also, I don't think any orchestra will want to hold one note the entire piece.

I know I sound critical, but I'm trying to help. I still suck too (yeah we're in the same boat), but its easier to find faults in another person's piece than your own!

Im not being combatative at all....

THe score is in concert pitch so teh bass can play it because it is written an octave lower than it sounds.

This isn't in a form per say, it is random because im trying to put what was written in the book into the music. The long note the violin plays is the bell that doesnt stop wringing. unless the one note that keeps droning is a midi problem.

Well, then it may just be a MIDI problem. I know that when I first listened to it, the violin was replaced by a piano! The second time worked better, but I dunno.

Well, WiseElben, you were right, considering it as a conventional score, the dbs sound an octave lower than written.

I quite liked the piece and as usual, things were lost in the midi, like the expressive capability of the Cor Anglais. With a real orchestra you'd have trouble getting a CA player to play as dead pan as that. Also you mention specific effects that midi has not reproduced.

It has a darkish, oppressive mood, possibly because of the bass. A "We don't go to Ravenholm" (after the mop-up) mood for me. It gives time to absorb and sensually respond to what's going on.

I replayed it mentally from the score, second tim. The scoring is fine - in real life it would sound better though you may have to adjust the bass.
