Trio for piano, violin and flute (Nevermore)

Featured Replies

This is a piece I originally wrote in 2007 for my undergrad course at Sussex (which I dropped out from). I managed to get it performed in a concert last term at the Royal Academy of Music after ever so slightly revising it.The piece will be performed again sometime at Foyles Gallery in London (hopefully!) if all goes to plan ;)

Wow, I enjoyed the mysterious eery mood of the piece!

Hi Kookiblob. Thanks very much for the reply, the piece has only been uploaded for about 3 minutes so I really appreciate your enthusiasm in posting promptly! :D

The piece as you say is mysterious. Although I never really intellectualise over what I'm writing during the compositional process, the piece is harmonically ambiguous. The scale that runs throughout the piece is in the key of C but has a flattened and naturalised 3rd (E flat and E natural). This is confusing but pleasant to the ear; the prevailing key of the piece isn't really minor or major but instead weaves between the two contrasting tonalities! Hope you find that interesting! :D

Alex

wow

it is a great work

I agree with what's said above, magical work almacg :)

It reminds me of a scene out of Fantastia, except the music is more twisted, in a way. It has that refined feel to it: the trills and grace notes of the flute and violin throughout the piece, along with the grand sound of the piano, accomplish that feel. The scale climbing up and down, up and down through the piece, evoke the feeling of exploring a strange land (made even more strange and mystical by the sometimes-odd scales climbed!) Very cool.

(Haha, I like how long the audience claps at the end! )

10/10 and favorite, thanks for sharing! :D

Hi Serge. Yeah I deliberately left the applause in <img src="http://network.youngcomposers.com/elgg/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" alt=":)" /> Infact sometimes I just listen to the applause on an endless loop for meditative purposes <img src="http://network.youngcomposers.com/elgg/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" alt=":)" />

Thank you very much for listening and commenting <img src="http://network.youngcomposers.com/elgg/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" alt=":)" />

Thanks also to Makwinga :D

Overall, I like this. A little more contrast would've been nice - but I think the piece has enough energy and excitement in it to make it still interesting. I love this. Thanks for sharing.
