Preview: Out of the Darkness

I hope to work on this score this summer. I actually have a lot more than this little sample finished, but it is all in different pieces. Any suggestions will be helpful.

This sample starts the slow and dark beginning. After this sample, there will be a bit more

of the slow and dark & then there will be the presto section.

Nice work, I enjoy the eery suspensful effect that you've layed down. I think this would be even more effective if you dropped it down to an even slower tempo. It should really creep along until you hit the presto section. This would make for a nice Symphony if you can work out a formula. Also, a concert overture might be in your interest here. I'm not sure exactly which direction you wanted to go with this, but as an introduction, it's quite effective.

I like the use of the piano in the beginning, but the quality of the instrument in the background (strings or organ) is stratchy, and has wierd dynamic jumps.

The mood is well set by the intro, and it works up to the climax but alas, its the end of the sample!

I'll be waiting for the final version. =)

The slower tempo is a good idea. I may do that in the near future.

Yes, Finale can sometimes have terrible sound effects. . The "dynamic jumps"...yeah...that's Finale ignoring the crescendo from the previous two measures. I don't know exactly why it does some things and not the others.

You may find yourself adding in special effects via Finale just to get the sound you want. If you're not using an updated version of Finale, it will be hard to get those dynamic changes to go more smoothly. Post a more finished version soon, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Out of topic: use the MIDI Tool in Finale (I'm using v2006, dunno if its in the older ones) and use the "Scale" tool to create your dynamics.
