Ballad

Featured Replies

This is an instrumental pop tune I wrote using my keyboard sequencer back in 2004. I revamped it recently though by changing the chord progression a bit, and by adding some additional instrument tracks to it. It is, as it's title suggests, a pop ballad and it has a sort of late 80's to early 90's feel to it. "Ballad" © 2004 Jair Crawford

I like it. It's mellow, and doesn't try too hard to convey something. Are you planning to write lyrics for it?

Hmm, it reminds me of the Twin Peak's theme actually.

Good work!

Thanks! :D

No, I'm not planning on doing lyrics, just because... well... I'm not good at writing them, and, I don't sing. lol But the idea was for it to sound very lyrical, even though it's instrumental. So there is that sort of... singable quality to it. There is one thing I forgot to mention, though. The reason why I changed the chord progression recently is because it originally sounded too much like the song from Titanic. You know, "My Heart Will Go On". I wanted my piece to sound more original, therefor I changed the chord progression. So I just wanna hear conformation from someone, it doesn't sound too much like the song from Titanic, does it? Cause that used to drive me CRAZY... lol

Really nice ballad. Yes it has 90's thing. I wish the samples you using were more good.

It didn't remembered me the Titanic before you said but you can sing My Heart Will Go On lyrics on it.

About the samples, me too. lol Every sound you hear is directly from a Korg Triton. I sequenced the whole thing directly on the keyboard's built in sequencer.

Argh... that's what I was afraid of. I thought the chord changes would make it harder to be able to sing the Titanic melody over it... >.< That was completely unintentional. I was hardly familiar with "My Heart Will Go On" until after I wrote this ballad, cause someone told me it reminded them of it. So I listened to the song from Titanic after they told me that, and I was like "... Really? Well that's just... wonderful... ugh..." lol. *Sigh*

Is there any way I can make it to where you CAN'T sing the Titanic melody over this? Or... am I obsessing too much over that, and should I just leave it alone?

Is it suppose to have all the pitch bends and static!?

Sounds sorta like what my bloody valentine would write if they were all given keyboards

Something tells me it's not suppose to be like that and that there's some sort of error with the mp3 file :) ... but seriously you should keep it like that it sounds epic

Are you talking about that distortion you hear during the last time you hear the chorus, after everything is built up in momentum? If so, then that is completely intentional. That's heavy distortion guitars droning power chords in the background. (well, they're not real guitars, but a guitar sample on my keyboard. lol)

I like the sound of a nice heavy distortion guitar droning in the background. It makes for a nice intense emotional fullness to the music, I think.
