New string ensemble (no name yet)

Featured Replies

Hey fellow composers  I wrote this piece last night, and you know how it is when you just keep writing & writing - it can be difficult to give na objective opinion of one's own work.

So I thought I'd post it here to see what you guys thought. I seem to be going through a stage of writing happy, playful music but there's nothing wrong with that eh? :D It's basically for solo violin with string orchestra backing.

Thank you!

I like it. The chord change at :18 keeps my attention. I also appreciate the little runs on the main violin at :40ish. That adds a lot of interest. At 1:06, I like the fast patterns. They caught my attention well. And again at 1:40, the chord change is good. It keeps me listening. At 2:00, I like the trill thingies. They add interest, also. The ending fits the piece well.

One thing to look out for is a little bit of repetition in the main theme.

This piece really uberly reminded me of the theme to Masterpiece Theater (or if you watch-ed!- Sesame Street, then Monsterpiece Theater). It reminds me of a royal dance- with all the high-class citizens milling around, everyone clustered around the punch bowl, musicians playing in the background while people dance.

Nice, it's very lively. Definitely happy and playful. One thing I really didn't like was around 1:05. I don't know, it just sounded kind of weird there to me. Otherwise, overall I thought it was really good.
