Theme of a Journey

Featured Replies

I wrote this song to try to depict how one theme, such as the theme of a character, can be reused in different ways to suite the different situations or moods that may be involved in a story. I've received many responses of what this journey may be about, and you can make up your own if you wish. While writing it, I had several ideas for each variation, the first being about a grand castle, the second, open hills and fields, the third, mountains and caverns, and then the fourth transitions through a forest to where a villain lies and perhaps a friend is hurt. The fifth marks the rising out of the toughest part of the journey, and the sixth back to the grand castle where things slow down back to peace. The recording was made on a rushed schedule and on a Yamaha keyboard so the interpretation is not nearly what I wanted, but perhaps I can record a more proper version on a real piano when time and resources allow.

Wow.. Really nice work here. I enjoyed listening to this piece. I love all part of this piece. You do a good job expressing a mood. Well-done. Thank you for sharing it. -Minoxor.

Absolutely perfect! Amazing job depicting a theme and all the emotions that go along with it, thanks so much for sharing!

Wow. For a second my mind was thinking this song was from something big like a video game or movie, then I remembered, this was made by someone who probably isn't even been discovered! Well I congratulate you! This song is amazing. Really great piece. Beautiful melodies and everything. :)

Hey this is pretty good! I like it! Good job using your theme with variations and such. Much better than anything I got ;) !

Welcome to YC and that was a great debut!! I loved everything from the grace notes to the many triplets all throughout. I actually thought of a journey of either self-discovery or across the plains or something. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I'm adding it as a favorite!

Nice. Be aware a real pianist can not play some of the right hand passages. Especially the octaves and triplets.. Good job.

Actually, savinamusic, I performed the recording myself and they are all quite possible. Keep in mind that the song is in C-sharp major, which actually allows easier performance of some of the difficult-looking parts because of the black keys involved as opposed to white keys. The more difficult passages actually occur in the left hand starting around measure 133, which took more practice to get down because of the constant hand position changes.

Wow, this could definitely be orchestrated (not just for orchestra though, but for piano and orchestra). It has a certain 'massive' quality to it in some parts; but in others there's a piano sound that probably can't be replicated... you might want to try to add a symphony orchestra accompaniment to double some of the left hand stuff.

Great work! This was an awesome piece to debut with.

Wow! You write very well for the piano! Each variation was in very different character from the others. One minor suggestion though, the modulation between mm. 100-101 is kind of abrupt. Overall it was a very nice work!

One other thing this piece would go great with an olympic skiing montage :P !

Nice job! I'm not quite sure if I like how often you use the main theme, but your composition skills for piano are very good!
