Rondo for Wind Trio

This short little ditty is something I composed as my final composition for my intro to comp class. My purpose in writing this piece was to demonstrate my knowledge of Rondo form (ABACADA), while using a classical style of writing. Sorry if it sounds a little to traditional to some ears, I wasn't trying to break any new ground. Please leave a comment! I hope you enjoy!

Rondo for Wind Trio

I like this piece as it reminds me a lot of traditional techniques.I am not very comfortable with the oboe range in some parts as they are playing higher than a flute.

I'd like to add the bassoon low G in ms 43 (and somewhere else too) is out of range.

It sounds a bit classical indeed, but the harmony from ms 32 and further sounds like something neo, walking down the circle of fifths, but like spinning out of control.

The transitional pieces where you move from one key to another felt a bit forced, but it might be correctly classical. I don't know for sure ('cause I dislike that era )

jrcramer:Its a shame that that note is out of range it is my favorite note in the whole piece, but I guess i'll just have to redo that part. I am note sure if the transitions are correct classically, but I am happy with how most of it sounds. Thanks for the encouragement :).

Muzic, I think you have a wonderful start to something that should really be longer, or maybe a movement of a work. Your voice leading is quite good, even if some of the resulting harmonies sound a bit "wonky" or off-kilter (I actually think that's what you want, though). Like jcramer mentions, the bassoon is out of range, but that's an easy enough fix. Remember that the bassoon, under normal circumstances, does not play below Bb. I really enjoy the beginning and the returns to that melodic idea; it's an idea that really pushes forward and wants to go somewhere. Good work, but I'd like to hear it developed even more.

--I like how you do return to the original theme through-out, I think it all fits. :)

--I wish there was more "spice" in the piece: it's in a minor piece, but there's not really much sense of passion or excitement, and instead feels very cold. Maybe use some 5 or 7 chords to accent certain parts? And perhaps add in some grace notes towards the beginning of the piece to break up the midi's super-close adherence to the rhythm.

SergeOfArniVillage:Thank you for your comments. I am glad you liked it, a 7 out 10 is not bad IMO. I can see what you mean about it needing more spice, if I rework it will defiantly try and liven it up a bit.

I really enjoyed this mini-rondo. I agree with what BO said, you really can elaborate and expand on this exponentially. You have a wonderful start. Thanks for sharing this.

Aside from some of the technical error's that the others pointed out, this piece is a lot of fun. I think you have added quite a bit from the last time I heard it. The additions really flesh it out.
