May 5, 201016 yr This is the first piece I've written for strings, specifically violin and cello. It's just a little sketch to get my feet wet and try out some things. Mainly, I wanted to play around with changing time signatures. I thought it came out nice enough to share and get some feedback on anyway.PS. If someone knows of a way to notate a gradual shift from staccato to legato I would be grateful. Doodle No 1
May 5, 201016 yr Not a bad experiment at all. I like this, sort of bartokian in a way. Usually, I just write in the staccato to legato myself. Thanks for sharing this!
May 6, 201016 yr Interesting work, JoshMc :) --As I listened to the piece, I could not help but picture a stubborn mule braying and carrying on about something or the other. The cello sounds like it's going "hee-haw!" in an unpredictable rhythm, and that's what made we think of that mule through-out the entire doodle. It was funny  Maybe the mule is aggravated by the "staccato"? (A fly?) (Hint, hint: name your piece something other than "doodle", it makes people want to hear it more ;) Give the music a "personification") --So, this is a doodle: does that mean that you're finished with it for all intents and purposes, and have moved to greener pastures? Or are you trying to find ways to develop the piece in some way? Thanks for sharing, this was fun  I'll refrain from rating due to the fact I don't know whether you feel this is finished or not.

I sorta refrain from giving these things more descriptive names as I generally don't go into them trying to convey a specific idea or emotion, I just run with whatever starts happening. Giving it a name after the fact feels, to me, a bit disingenuous, like tripping in a graceful manner then claiming that I meant to do that. Besides, I'm not looking to market these in any way. Part of the reason I use such a silly name is out of fear that people would think this was something I really labored over or take particularly seriously. The piece is definitely finished though. Your description is interesting to me, by the way. I wasn't expecting to convey anything comic but I can totally see where you got that from. Thanks for the comment.
