May 20, 201015 yr Have anyone read the book “The Hours” by Michael Cunningham? And Virgia Woolf’s “Mrs Dalloway”? One night a while ago I had a wave of insomnia and thought I’ll do an impromptu piece on the character of Mrs Dalloway/Clarissa Vaughn and came up with this piece. Simple melody and simple harmonies. Sorry, there is no score and just this recording of me doodling on the piano (with my two cats on my lap). Mrs Dalloway
May 20, 201015 yr I like what you've done here, Vincent :) --Simple melodies with simple harmonies are sometimes the best things: simplicity in music is a huge ally, as long as it doesn't stoop to simplicity, which only the intro here might be, but nothing else ;) Maybe for your intro you could add an octave just to add a little bit of interest in the beginning, as you lead into the main song. --I love how you vary your theme as well through-out the piece, and develop it  There's kind of a wistful, bittersweet feel in the piece -- I've never read either of those books. Does that description fit with what you were trying to accomplish? :hmmm: Thanks for sharing this! I'll give it a 9/10: I enjoyed it very much :D
May 20, 201015 yr It is very simple, and the fact that there are a few different themes and motives avoids the pop sound, although the arpeggios do occur often. Enjoyable, I found it good
May 21, 201015 yr Author Hi Everyone! Thanx so much for your comments and advice, much appreciated! A “wistful, bittersweet feel” is just what I was trying to create! I think I am satisfied with this piece regarding the fact that it fits and “sounds” the personality of Mrs Dalloway. Her character is somewhat sad and even depressed at times as she seeks meaning in life. Michael Cunningham based the character of Clarissa in his book “The Hours” on the Virgia Woolfs character in “Mrs Dalloway”. She is always trying fix the lives of others. This piece needs some work (like the rather empty beginning and work on the perhaps too many arpeggios). I guess this recording was just a sketch. PS: There is a movie version of “The Hours” and the score is by Philip Glass which is very beautiful. Try to watch it!
July 21, 201015 yr I was thinking your music may be inspired my Glass's score! Very fine work indeed Mr Vincent. I like it a lot.
