Space Dance

This track was written for a composers competition. The task was to re-score a sequence from Wall-E.

Concerning the musical side of the work I would call it a family film music. I tried some waltz at the beginning, some Goldsmith's adventurous portamento along the way. In fewer words its a very lighthearted piece.

This track sounds excellent! The writing is really good. Your samples are pretty decent as well. What programs and sound libraries did you use to compose this?

Your mix is pretty good as well, very warm and full.

Nice ending too! I'm a big fan of the waltz rhythm and the harp and piccolo flourishes. Without going crazy, why not experiment with some of those waltz harmonies? You play it pretty safe and I think there's a lot more potential.

Why did you leave the waltz so soon? I was enjoying it.

This piece was composed for a fixed sequence of scenes and I felt it was best to leave waltz meter where it ended, because I wanted to explore adventurous 4/4 movement in style of Jerry Goldsmith. I used EWQL on this one. And pretty much on all my tracks.

Nice. You obviously have EWQL setup correctly! Mind if I ask whats your setup using? I've been trying to get sibelius setup to use Platinum pro so I don't have to use keyswitches for the articulations(downloaded the soundset for it) but no luck ;/

I don't feel that use too advanced setup. I have some experience configuring Finale for using EWQL or visa versa, but with no luck really either. Now I'm using sequencers rather than notation software so can't say anything. My version of library is rather old and is based on Kompakt player, so I'm just using several midi output channels on each player for each articulation.

It must be extremely time consuming to do so? I assume you mean you use one midi track per articulation and have several tracks per instrument? This is what I'm trying to avoid because I like to write the music using proper notation(makes it easier to visualize what is going on). You really figured out how to get the proper sound out of the library.

Well, not so time consuming actually. Midi tracks come later in the sequencer. See, if I have a chord progression, I have only to adjust midi Kompakt output for each note according to what articulation I want to use. 8 channels for each articulation on each Kompakt player. One kompakt player per midi track. So I can easily have one orchestral voice on separated midi track and just switch articulations inside when I need it. Maybe we talk about the same things though.

But to say honestly I know that my methods quite strange so I'm not saying anything. You guys write in notation and I don't. I lost my chance in the past and now it goes slowly.
