Pedal For Acoustic Guitar

Featured Replies

I can safely guess that you have seen the movie "August Rush" with it's great pieces like "This Time" , "Bari Improv" or "Dueling guitars"...

Well The Gibson SJ-200 EC (in the movie they said it's a J-200 but it's not ) is out of reach.. $3,500 !!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

But I was wondering what kind of pedals they have used to get such a sound In this one and this one

and if this kind of pedals must be used with an Electro-acoustic guitar or it can be used with an acoustic guitar with a 'pastille' or a mic ?

In the first link, I don't believe there is a pedal. My husband (fatkidslikecake) and I play it without a pedal. I believe it's technique. Slap playing with a double harmonics throw in from time to time. It's really a beautiful sound, but it isn't easy to master.

lol, so they got andy mckee doing soundtracks for movies on his techniques now? yeah but its not him. some other guy who knows about his fame maybe.

in anycase, the pedal on the second clip is simply delay. i'm pretty sure they use a compressor, reverb and others to enrich the sound but its mostly the sound of the guitar itself-and of course the microphone the gets it, which starts at around 10k$, upper end stuff meh.

i've done some recordings with certain mics, i don't know how they do it but it sounds ways better than what you hear in the room, and that wasn't the upper end mic.

I have downloaded the thing on GuitarPro and i've started playing it !! but it's nothing like in the movie... (maybe 'cause i don't have an Sj200  ) ... well slap isn't strange for me (I play bass also ) so it shouldn't be that hard ..

@J: like you I thought of Andy Mckee the first time i saw the movie .. but his name doesn't figure out between the composers [Chris Botti / John Legend / Kaki King / Mark Mancina Paula Cole / The Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra]

i'm trying to use the delay in the amp... with some chorus .. it doesn't sound that clean yet ... working on it ...

but i think i'm buying an acoustic pedal.. Behringer i think

Hey dude, part of it is the recording, just how it picks it up and they tweek it. But a lot of it is just a quality of the guitar. If you get your hands on a quality taylor guitar cutaway you can get the sound pretty spot on. Another thing to keep in mind is that the slapping on the guitar is a bit different than how one would do it on the bass. While a bass is more of a slapping movement, the guitar slap is more of a coming back motion. Hard to describe in words, but if you play slap on the guitar as you do on bass, might explain why you aren't getting the bright sound.

as i've said, if you read-the quality of the condenser/mic is everything in acoustic guitars, it simply sounds unbelievable good even on a medicore guitar, you won't be able to get that sound no matter what you do, if you don't get yourself a mic and monitors worth tons of $$$.

I found a couple of mics in my range... but there seems to be 2 kinds

'CELLULES'

or these ones

any difference in the sound??

ps: the cellule mic is more adequate to my budget...

lol i'm sorry man, these things might be good if you want to put on a show and need amplification. in no way you can call those recording equipment for the medium level let alone upper level. and the thing you need to look for is a condenser, those things singer you see recording with:

behringer_studio_condenser_microphone_c_s16454.jpg

and not that one! its not the best you can get for that money.

i would go to a music shop and ask for a demonstration and try yourself before even considering, there are lots of semi-pro stuff out there and alot of junk as well, so becareful!

you shouldn't go rushing into buying stuff so quickly, first make sure you have a decent guitar and you can wail a few tricks on your own-not just play other people stuff, then record on your own stuff, then upgrade, etc..
