Nostalgia in Times Square (cover)

I recorded this arrangement of Charles Mingus famous "Nostalgia in Times Square" to demonstrate for my band how I wanted it. (Warning: Excuses)Take note that I'm not a guitarist at all, I just got myself a guitar and I'm still learning. I'm a trombonist. I do however play organ in the band and my organ chops are usually better than this, I'll blame it on insufficent warming up.Hope you'll enjoy it despite the excuses. ;)

For a musician of your skill, you're really good!!! The Guitar was good in the song even if the notes you played were beginner-ish, and the organ sounded fine to me (even though I'm not an organist.) I say keep posting, keep practicing, and don't be so hard on yourself! There are lots of people (like me) who can't learn 3 instruments at once AND compose. just remember that learning a new instrument is always a plus for composing and keep up the good work! I can't wait to hear more from you!

hi franzman, i like that piece also, you've made a nice demonstration of how this should sound, i'd love to hear your bone playing on the solos, if that is your main instrument it would make a whole lot better impact on the solos section.

arrangement wise, its pretty standard stuff, but its working, there are many ways in which you can arrange a piece, such as breaks, riffs that answer the melody etc etc, but if you just like to play standards like me and arrange it on real time its fun also!

on your next recording-bone solo please!

The reason I don't record trombone because I don't have a mic (or a good sound card) thats up for the task, it would just sound really bad.

This was just an example of the general sound I was after (organ, shuffle ect). The real arrangement will take form when we jam later. :)

Mingus tunes are good chord learning tools, definitely. Nice, straight forward arrangement. Knowing as much as you can about how other instruments work will only help in your composition efforts. Can't tell you how many times I've made a fool of myself because I wrote incorrectly for the range of an instrument...learning experience, I suppose. Anywho, enjoyed it.
