Film Music Competition

Woah, I thought there'd be way more stay in. :D I could whip up something in an hour and send it in.

Of course it'd be the worst one, incredibly boring or impossible, and completely off topic.

ah well, next competition maybe.

Man this is depressing, so many dropping out

So far I have recieved four entries, people have had confirmation e-mails sent. Just to make sure that everyone gets a chance, the competition will close at 12pm GMT on Saturday (leaves people west of USA with a chance to get in on their Friday!)

I've submitted my entry, Thomas. Please email me whether or not you get it, so I know if Gmail sent it. Gmail's been acting a little moody lately. Thanks! ;)

I sent mine to Thomas. Unlike everyone else, I'm not too happy with my piece. Of course mine is called Encounter with the Fiend so it's not exactly a happy piece. :D

Have you heard Invisionary's piece, Chris? I thought we weren't supposed to know what the other competitors had written. In any case, though, you haven't heard anyone else's. It's anyone's game.

It's Friday afternoon, and I count five people who haven't reported turning their entry in. I hope we don't have a bunch more withdrawals!

So I think Invisionary is going to win.

Err... Last time people started declaring me the winner to soon (In the Poem Competition) the competition

ended up getting cancelled. (Even though I won by two points mathematically) :D

Chris hasnt heard my piece yet and I agree its anyones game.

.........this is what I get for trying to finish/send my piece on a Friday night!!! Haha I finished the piece last night, at like 1 am! Then went to bed, and today my mom and I went to Hersheypark so I couldn't do anything til after dinner tonight, and I made the mp3 and finished the score, now I'm trying to attach the 9 MB mp3 before my brother picks me up to go play D&D!!! argh

Anyway, I'm trying to send it. If the mp3 doesn't go, I will load it tomorrow. Don't kill me, Thomas!! :D

Anyway, I hope my piece isn't considered too hard on the orchestra...!! I hope you guys can count...! No really, it's not that bad. There are recognizable themes floating in and out, and most of it is very singable. There's nothing really hard on the instruments, maybe some awkward flute fingerings? Eh, shouldn't be too bad.

EDIT: It's not going quick enough, and I have to leave. Thomas, I will send it first chance I get in the morning, or like 3-4 AM when I get home. thanks.

Well, there's a half hour left... unless people didn't get the message to post when they submitted their things, it looks like we have a few more dropping out. That's too bad; I'd hoped to see the rest complete the assignment.

Well that's it folks! I've recieved e-mails from Chris Sivak, Nick, and Paul Brandt - I have a total of eight e-mails in my inbox. I will start downloading tonight and judging as well :) Results should be on the thread by this time next week (hopefully!)

If you want me to review your piece in detail, kind of like a Major Works thing but much longer, just send me a message to gmail.

Best of luck to everyone. At this moment, I have listened to or seen nothing and am completely unaware of the horrors that await me in my inbox !! Congratulations also to you eight for managing to compose the piece in such a short period. That shows real talent.

I have a total of eight e-mails in my inbox.

Accually you only have 7 emails you need to look at. I sent two because I found a mistake in the first one I sent. :)

Anyways, good luck to everyone!

Hope my song got sent... :)

Did it btw.

Ok--all sent, finally!

Uh, Thomas...I don't know those names you have written in your post. I only know the screennames on this site. Is it true that only these people have submitted pieces:

1. Invisionary, 2. Saiming, 3. Eselbeus, 4. johannhowitzer, 5. Chris Shaver, 6. Compclar, 7. Nickthoven

So, Tumababa, Keith Novak, and Nightengale have not submitted?

In other words, who are these people: Chris Sivak, Paul brandt, Matthew, Christopher, Seann, and Jeremy?

We need to work out what's going to happen with submissions. Normally the procedure is that the competition thread is closed and a new thread is opened in the Submissions forum, in which each participant submits their composition to be judged. However, as all pieces have been submitted via email to Thomas and he will have judged them himself, the end result will presumably be a single post from him with the pieces attached, and some comments about them (they needn't be too extensive). Of course, everyone else can still post comments.

Is this OK with everyone? I'm wondering whether perhaps some may not be comfortable with their submission being posted publicly, as the condition was that it would be submitted privately via email, but people can always opt out.

I submitted mine at like 2am last night. I don't think they'll pick it though.

I am a bit paranoid of anything of any larger size of mine being posted here.

Unless its mp3.

Well, I don't know who the other people are, but I can tell you that I'm Paul B.

What I'd like as far as the "submissions" thread is for Thomas to just email us his critiques, and then we can post our entries however we like in the thread for critique by fellow members. I sent him a PDF and MP3, and I'm not sure I want him posting the MP3 somewhere online just to link to it from here. I already have it linked on my weblog.

I forgot to mention, we'll probably be able to host submissions in MP3 format ourselves.

I'm Seann.

Here's what's going to happen:

I am going to close this thread. I will create a thread in the Submissions folder, where Thomas will post the 5 winners. Each contestant will have the option to post their file(s) up, or Thomas will do it himself if asked. All of the contestants may post up their pieces in the new thread, not just the 5 winners. Later on, when announced, the winning piece will be put up in the thread if it has not already. It's good for people to know why they didn't win.

Thomas will be informed to please send each contestant their own comments for their piece. They will choose if they want them to be made public or not.

If there are any questions about this, please PM me.
