Knights

Do you mind me asking why the piece is called "Knights"? Is it related to some type of video-game music which itselfs has to do with knights/the knighthood? If so, I'm not sure that you captured the traditional kind of music associated with knights, medieval times, etc., but the piece is still interesting nonetheless. When I listen to it I seem to be associating it more with Ghosts, or something of that nature than Knights. The ending was a bit weak, however it may be appropriate considering what preceeded it.

Overall I think that you have some good material to work with, but it may need a little polishing - or not, either way, I don't really care (and I don't mean this in a disrespectful manner - I don't want to influence your music... your music is yours, so my opinion really should matter)... it is your music after all.... sigh, apathy is my best friend. Which reminds me of a quote:

"There is so much apathy in the world today . . . but who cares?"

Okay dokie... have you any last thoughts cavatina, you ask? Yes, and here they are: continue composing, continue making music that pleases yourself, and don't take other peoples' opinions too seriously. Peace and love my friend.

I liked it - very interesting form, but why "knights"? Like cavatina said doesn't sound very medieval - traditional.

Maybe "Nights"? An awkward coincidence, or just trying to be amusing :)? Anyways, neat piece - harmonies are pretty well flowing, though the left-hand parts could be reinforced a bit more, if you wanted a stronger melodic presence. It sounds like a sorta modern etude, heh.

Thanks for the feedback. I promote a kind of composing that a friend and myself started using. We call it self-constructive composition. It has to do simply with thinking of a subject, here given as a Knight, and to compose based on the mood, actions, and such of that subject. The changing melody of the piece is indicative of trying times for our knight, as well as (major parts) heroic success. I suggest you try the technique sometime; While some people may not understand, it is quite useful when attempting to create material.

Perhaps you would all like some translations :

The First measure itself is an entire idea: Awakening from sleep.

2 - 8: Dealings with the church

9 - 15:Searching the cave for the Dragon

16 : The Battle

17 - 18: Victory

19 - 22: The Spoils of Victory

23 - 26: The Princess

27 - 28: The End

29 - End: Falling Asleep

(Call me a crackpot, these are the images I used.)

Thank you again for teh critiques. I was quite pleased with it myself :)

Really nice idea that you and your firend got! I'll be sure to try it sometimes, be sure to continue experimenting!

Interesting piano piece here. The opening is very atmospheric, filled with uncertainty and atonal changes. I like how the tonality and atonality sort of blend into each other. The use of the pedal to make all the notes reverberate is well done as well, but perhaps might be overdone.

I must confess, I tried to follow your programme as I listened, but found myself unable to identify any of the sections of music with the programme you set up. That is, apart from waking up.

An interesting piece nevertheless.

Thanks again for the comments ;)

This self-constructive method sounds really cool. It's an approach to form that is quite like song-form minus the lyrics. The piece develops linearly and does not rely on its need to return to previous themes and sections, unless of course the subject matter dictates it. I liked this one, jojodi. Do you have any more similarly composed pieces?

Heh, neat technique. Sometimes my pieces turn out this way, though often not entirely due to conscious intention. I sorta "fit the pieces in" afterwards, and curiously enough it works pretty well for the most part. Your piece is pretty nice, though as Matusleo mentioned, it's a bit hard to pick out such wide ranging subjects with the music somewhat lacking in contrast (at least on the surface level).
