Il Prete Rosso (The Red Priest)

Featured Replies

Here it is, the finalized version for my music theory composition "Il Prete Rosso (The Red Priest). I hope you all enjoy it, and if you would like to perform it, even better! I do realize it is short, and in the future, I will extend this to a slightly longer piece (2-3min).Let me know what you think, and if you perform this song, you can download the scores right off this site :P.Here is a recording of our performance today!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKWsOyM9kWg-Jamal

HEY GUYS! If you are interested in performing this song, i have the score for each part right here! Enjoy!

Sounds interesting! The score is odd... use f# instead of Db, (it's the leading tone). The triplets could also be replaced by mordents. I definitely would have liked to hear more, as your use of the string orchestra rather than the solo keyboard for a Baroque piece is very refreshing (there are a ton of solo piano Baroque fugues and preludes, but not many concerti or fugues for large ensemble). Otherwise I hear and see standard Baroque devices used effectively, minus some errors here and there (watch out for parallels). Good work!

Very nice I like it! Just the score needs some fixing, like ParanoidFreak said, replace all the Gb with F#

Hey thanks a lot ParanoidFreak, i actually noticed the faults but i did not have time to fix them before the concert (the musicians were a bit unhappy about it lol). I appreciate that you liked this song, and i would like to finish this to continue perfecting my skill in Baroque composition. Thanks again!

I liked this work quite a bit-it had the nice blend of Baroque style with modern rhythms. Nice use of Ritornello form also :). On another note, pretty much what everybody said about those pesky Gb's are what I have to add. In addition to the leading tone of F#, string players tend to get along with sharp notes (or flats if it's easier to understand in the context of the key). Other than that, not half bad!
