Double Concerto for Oboe and Violin Allegro-Largo-Allegro

Featured Replies

Hey.I uploaded the first movement earlier, and i composed the last two movements today. Its not a very long concerto, but form my point of view the movements is very compact. As i mentioned in the other thread this is not a concerto for string orchestra and soloists. All the instruments are single. Please tell me what you think.SimenN

Double Concerto for Oboe and Violin Allegro-Largo-Allegro

Just listening to your piece and reading the introduction. I wonder as you say that it is not a concerto for string orchestra and soloists, that all the instruments are single, why you call it a Double Concerto for Oboe and Violin. Rest of the remarks follow...

Splendid!

I have no words. So far I do not know anyone who can write this as correct.

This played with real instruments, it must be wonderful.

Congratulations. :)

Very nice as always! I did find the second movement a bit too short. Funny how all the movements ended pretty much exactly the same way. You might want to try to expand your musical language though: I noticed you use a lot of tied notes against runs (which are beautifull by the way, I think you've mastered it by now). Although it was used a lot in baroque, I don't think it was the only or main part of a composition (at least not every composition). Try to spice things up for your next compositions. It seemed to me all 3 movements were centered around that given, and if I remembered correctly so was/were (some of) your previous piece(s). Do include these tied-run-sequential parts, but maybe you could use them a bit more sparsely. That way the effect will be even greater imo.

Very early Bach, all off his double concertos use a fugal texture, and it's perfectly imitated here. It really does sound more like a concerto for two soloist with string orchestra accompaniment, a quartet could play it, but I think it would sound a bit anemic, at least three instruments to a part or maybe 3,3,3,2 would be a better balance. It's nicely written, I would have loved to hear more from the second movement though.

Thanks folks :)

Sir, you could easily pass off as one of Bach's somewhat less than stellar contemporaries, like Fasch or Telemann. My compliments.

Very nice. I like it a lot. I did notice a lot of general similarities between your movements. The Largo was the point of most contrast, and that was very short - Both allegros were very similar, and the final bars of each movement featured the same ending. I think it would be nice to see you branch off a bit from your baroque tendencies, to see what kind of music you would create. I can tell you're composing very much within your comfort zone - Which is nice, and produces good music. But I'd like to see that talent applied to other styles and types of work.

Great piece, and thanks for sharing!

Happy Holidays,
