short alleluia for a Sunday service

Featured Replies

Well I'd like first to thank Jawoo and Peter for helping with finale.

This is a short alleluia piece written specially for my church choir, and it is intended to be performed during service.

The melody came to me as I was walking on the streets of Washington, and admiring all the beautiful churches that my town has. I harmonize it with my piano and learned the chord progressions. Then I went to finale and added some counterpoint; although the whole piece is predominant homophonic

I intend to show this to my choir director (hope he likes it) tomorrow.

any comments welcome.

Thanks for stopping by

Is there a file?

There it is Roy.

And by the way, my church conductor liked it. It will be in the service program for a whole month starting on September. Yay!

I like it! Make sure you post a recording of it being performed, when it is!

Is it finished? Doesn't sound finished, but I guess that's the point of this forum.

You might want to watch for big leaps, they're hard to sing (really exciting though when people do sing them well).

Hi there!

Thank you, glad you liked it.

So it's basically the Alleluia that is repeated 2 times; then the soprano and alto sing together "Lord to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life" and the alleluia repeats once more. This is sung usually right before the Gospel during service(mass) so I had to make it this short according to the usual order. However, in the midi the alleluia is appreciate only 1 time( first 8 bars) followed by the text which is sung 1 time also.

I posted it in incomplete works since I consider this piece to be too short for another thread, although I wanted to share it regardless.

I ll try my best to post a recording when it's sung. I think I ll have plenty of time next month. Ah! and I think my choir will be able to sing those leaps. I tried to a least have 1 or 2 voices move in 1 direction while those leaps concur.

All bests,
