Ráno(Mourning)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.I'm new here and don't know how's it going over here, but thank God I found out how to post my composition here :o) It's my second composition. And the first one to post here.

A simple piece of mine. The melodies in it occupied my mind a whole day,so I just had to record it.Hope you'll like it.everything is actually played as one guitar piece(including all the bass lines, and the main melody) and then I played another guitar playing just a melody,to make it sound better, and then also there's another guitar in the background.Sorry for the bad violin sound,I'll remake it as soon as a possible.Hope you'll like it

Let me know what do you think about it

Ráno(Mourning)

All the instruments are played by me

Hey Oliver! This is a REALLY nice piece. It is very soothing, relaxing, and honestly I would like to know is there a place I can download it? This is something I would like to listen to a lot. For the length, it does have variety but some may feel not enough. However, for this kind of song I feel it is fine. With songs like these, you like to hear it as long as you can and you got enough little variations to keep it interesting, and everything such as the piano near the end sections. One other thing, the guitars sometimes sound out of tune with each other, maybe it is intentional I'm not sure. Those are simply minor criticisms though, I truly love the song. It has a very relaxing melody and is really good in my opinion. 10 Stars added to the already 10 stars :)

And of course: To explain the title of the composition-"Ráno" means mourning in Slovak language, and the reason why I named it like this,is that I asked my parents(as I take them as most valued judges) what is the first thing that come to their mind after listening to it.And They said it's easy mourning, riding a bicycle at the mourning across the fields. So I just named it "Ráno"(Mourning)

Thank you very much Matt,I love to see such kind words! :) yes,the guitars sound a bit out of tune sometimes, but that's mostly intentional,to make it sound more "interesting" or what is the right word for it :D is it very disturbing? If so,I can change them. That's not a problem.

Again,thank you!

And I don't have a place for it to download yet :( I can send it to you as an email. Is it okay?

Hi Oliver!

First of all, welcome again to YC!

Thank you also for taking the time to get involved and leave some comments on others' work. They appreciate it and so does the reviewing staff, so make sure to keep that up and everyone is happy.

Now then, to your piece:

I'm very happy to hear live guitars. Your instrumentation is simple, but the effect is absolutely great — excellent blending of the two parts and you create a great mood. I won't bother repeating what others have said about how it's good; instead, I'll tell you what problems I had with it in case you want to consider changing anything. The first thing that bothered me was the tuning discrepancy between the two guitars. I understand that you meant it as an effect but the truth is that when I listened to it, it just sounded like poor playing, and you are obviously not a poor performer at all so it'd be a pity to have others have the same reaction. If you really like the effect then maybe keep it for a few instances, but not so many.

The next thing that I thought was questionable was the length. In all honesty I don't think this track needs to be so long. You very effectively presented all your material by the 4th minute so I would have preferred if it had ended around there instead of just repeating and continuing on. It doesn't develop anymore after that so it's just static repetition.

Last thing I'll say is that I felt as though you could have done a bit more with the processing of the guitar sound to get a slightly richer soundscape. Just a bit of delay and a bit more reverb would have given the sound much more presence without ruining the pristine, clean sound you have.

Overall a great track though, thanks for sharing! :)

Thank you very much Marius.I appreciate it a lot!

Well I like the way the quitars are sounding, just because my intension was to create a non traditional way of harmony between two playing guitars.I thought it may be interesting in this kind of piece,as a little experiment. To my ears it sounded just more interesting,or even better than how it would sound if they were more usual(of course I tried it also this way) and I recieved a very good reaction from my friends so I just left them be as they are now,It's more likeable for me.But that is just my point of view as a composer.I understand that they may be disturbing sometimes, and I'm still thinking of remaking some parts.

Thank you very much for listening and for giving me advice :) again,I appreciate it a lot!
