Brass Song

Okay, constructive reviews please! ^_^

Don't mind the middle part, it sounds pretty bad but I kind of used that to build up to the chords after it.

This is one of my first songs if you must know. It took about a week to make.

Also, come up with a name! Ha.

Oops, I guess I should tell you a bit, in the beginning, that's not 3 french horns, the lowest one is a euphonium/baritone/whatever you guys call that thing.

It's for Eb Soprano Cornet, 2 Trumpets, 2 French Horns, Euphonium, Trombone, Bass Trombone and Tuba ^_^. There, that's about all you need to know for now. :)

I'm not a brass player, but this is pretty good for a first song. (I did play trumpet in freshman band though)

I definitely like the beginning and end the most. The middle is interesting. You seemed to have crunched too many notes together. Maybe try using less instruments there and less notes. It doesn't sound terrible because it always isn't crunchy. Now that I thing about it, the problem might be that you sustain notes with one or two instruments and then change chords while they are still sustaining. The sustained notes aren't in the chord you want and it sounds strange.

IT's good you gave the instrumentation because I was wondering why the trumpet and french horn went that high. :)

The sustained chords thingy was intended, I like that effect. I meant the part where the Cornet is playing one really high note and the lower brass are cruchy-ish.

But thanks anyway, I used the cornet because I can't stand not being able to use really ghigh notes... I play flute, maybe that's why...

I want to make the ending a bit longer, can you help me with that?

Yes, it does end too early. You are good at producing melodies, but you don't expand on them. Try changing the melody around, adding more, develop it. I wouldn't use the key signature change at the end so early if you didn't develop at all. You use the melody and instead of changing it you go a few steps high basically repeating the melody.

Okay well, I confess, this it niether. I have 4 or 5 that I was serious about but then gave up on them because I couldn't figure anything out. This is the first one I finished that actually soungds like a song. I have absoluetly no theory knowledge at all, so that might set me back a bit, but I like making music.

I think my slow part is long enough, so should I make the theme there into a faster version (like what I tried to do at the key changes. But I oculdn't and ended up making something better)? Maybe I'll make something more fun for the tuba/euphonium player.

You can do what you want. IF this song was finshed and you were just seeing how it was then leave it alone. If you were looking on making a piece better then you can fix it. I will tell you what I normmally do, leave it alone if it's already finished and try to write a better piece next time.

It's ok about not knowing theory, I didn't know theory when I started composing at age 14 and didn't know theory until age 17-18.( I'm 19) How old are you by the way? You seem like a young person.

I'm 14. >_> And Really immature at that. :( So I'm probably really annoying, but that's not the point..

I wanted to post the piece here because I wanted it to be the best I could make it. By finished I meant like, beginning middle and end were there.

Okay, well I worked on it for an hour and it ended up as this, everything is the same until where the ending was supposed to be, and I added another part to my old ending to make it sound way better.
