Chromatic Fugue for Harpsichord

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, this is mt first post here. I've been lurking for a while, and finally decided to post something today.

This is a short chromatic fugue I wrote for fun about a year ago. I tried to stay fairly true to the baroque style, but I definitely broke some "rules" here and there.

Originally, I planed this for Marimba, but I changed my mind mid-way. Eventually I'll write a prelude or fantasy to go along with it.

Chromatic Fugue for Harpsichord

This is a really cool piece! :phones:

The way you use the chromatic scale for your fugue was really neat, especially at measure 7. Harpsichords are great instruments for midi playback -- they're not meant to be touchy-feely instruments, and they thrive on rigidity. You really used this to your advantage in this piece.

(Ow! The notes at measure 29, the 5th beat 8th notes make my hands hurt -- you'd need 10 notes with your right hand to get that G below middle C :sadtears: Maybe add a roll symbol in the left hand)

Great job! Thanks for sharing with us :D

Nice and detailed use of chromatic. More extreme than in Bach's chromatic fugues:)
