Sunshine Atoll Zone Act 1

Featured Replies

This is the theme for the first act in Sunshine Atoll Zone, the first level in Matthew Chapman's (Fawfulfan's) Sonic Robo Blast 2 Project, Tortured Planet. It's for a Sunbathed Tropical Island in the middle of the ocean.

Sunshine Atoll Zone Act 1

I joined this site while ago, but I was kind of nervous about posting anything up just because everything I've seen on this site is orchestral, and I don't do very much orchestral at the moment, especially not for this project. I figured I might as well, though, I hope you guys are open minded enough! ^_^

I definitely get the tropical feeling.

I liked the Xylophone/Maramba/Glock as well as the flutes in the background. This sounds pretty awesome.

What program did you use?

Thanks!

I use FL Studio for all my music, most of the sounds in here came from soundfonts, but the steel drums and strings were actually Midi tracks.

hi chary, welcome aboard!

don't worry about posting non orchestral stuff, and even if you fear the criticism the people here tend to be soft, so fear not!!! (bwahaha!!!)

in anycase, regarding your piece, i think its a cute one, nice beach vibe to it, abit layed back so if there are no robots torturing the planet its cool.

nice job !

Wes,

Nice piece you have here. Definitely got the tropical vibe.

I like your melodies, very friendly and catchy!

My only concern is the strings. I know this isnt an orchestral piece, but the synth strings bog down this piece. Any chance you have some better samples?

Good work wes! I really enjoyed it! Brought a smile to my face :]

Definitively feels "tropical". I like how relaxing the melodic lines feel. Sounds nice for relax in a resort. ;) I would recommend you to take a look to Latin rhythms, montunos, bossa nova, clave, etc. This kind of music is very rich with rhythms, and these rhythms are something very important. For your piece, I think you should slow down your percussion and give them the same relaxing mood the other instruments have.

Also the percussion is panned too much to the left side. If the soundfont does not let you to centre it or pan each percussion instrument individually, you can try and export the percussion and make a mono wav format for each single instrument of your percussion. If it sounds good and not extra noise added in the wav file, then you can import them back to your sequencer for pan them freely (and add other effects too).

About the strings, actually I could easily, make those much more realistic, and I would, but the game this is for is somewhat of a Lo-Fi game, being an edit of the Doom Engine, so I didn't want to make the music seem too out of place what with really realistic orchestral sounds.

I never liked that percussion anyways! :D It was kinda something I threw in there at the last minute, so maybe I'll have to fix it up at some point. I'm not the greatest at percussion tracks.
