Homestead

This is another piece for the mod im working on the soundtrack for at the moment. It will be played in the starting village which is on a little peninsula off the mainland. This is honestly like the first composition in a major key i've properly written... i'm just a sucker for minor! It's an ok composition I think, sets the mood but as anything other than a background piece it doesn't really hold much ground. I like the middle quiet section though... probably cos its in minor... damn...Anyway, enjoy!

Hey,

I'd say this is a good composition overall. I epecially like the beginning (actually more than you minor part ;)) It sounds fresh and adventurous.

The middle part actually bored me slightly, no offence. I think it's because you're keep always the same two chords on the piano and only at the star of each bar. Also you could vary more in instrumentation. The strings are present the whole piece. Maybe take them away completely for some time (not too long of course) and put in some more percussion.

The flute sounds a bit shrill, I think, but that'll be a sample problem, not you :D

Good job!

Glad you liked it! It's quite funny really, you suggested that I should take away the strings and add in more percussion in the middle section, and actually when i wrote the middle section at first I did take away all the strings and had the snare drum that isn't very audible in the rest of the piece carry on playing. Personally I liked it better this first way, but the guy who's mod im writing the soundtrack for felt the middle section sounded more like a war theme from like WW1 or 2, rather than something for a fantasy game, so I changed it. It's a shame I had to make the piece worse in my opinion by doing this, but I had to keep to the developers vision.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback :D

Yeah, I'm a bit of a minor keyer myself

You showed the sleepy village theme well. I really do like listening them while early in a game. It's just feels so serene and peaceful, and you need that to calm you down before some dark dragon or something conquers the world that the character lives in. That seems to happen so much to rpg heroes. Great work.
