Dear Beloved

A very short piano piece influenced heavily by Japanese and Jazz harmonies. Wrote this as a catharsis when I was going through a "break-up." I hope to expand the theme some day. Enjoy!

Hey Norman! Welcome to YC!

Your piece is very soothing and I love your progressions. I love the mood. I just wish it was longer!!! Yeah...I would continue with this one it has great potential in my opinion. Sometimes I feel like a lot of compositions posted on the forum seem pushed as if the composer is trying too hard but this piece runs very smoothly.

Good luck in your future compositions!

Thanks! Yeah I really hope to extend it too but the song is associated with a lot of negativity for me so when I wrote it, it was to purge those emotions. It's hard going back :P When I'm comfortable, I'll definitely go back and lengthen the piece.

Wow, I find that interesting that your negative feelings produces something so positive! So I gave it a second listening and I think I can here it now...a little bit of pain in there. But it's very beautiful! :)

My aim for the piece was to create a bittersweet nostalgic feeling where I remember both the good times we had but ultimately the painful and tainting knowledge that I'm no longer with a loved one. I was also trying to convey a sense of "moving-on" by having the pleasant moments overshadow the bitter ones, as if the bad memories no longer pull on my heart strings with great force. The beginning 2 chords is meant to invoke a reminiscent mood only to get defiled by the knowledge of loss (I added the dissonant 7th here to emphasize it).

Hi all,

I just wish it was longer!!! Yeah...I would continue with this one it has great potential in my opinion. Thanks for sharing with us.

I liked this. I think the opening chords are well chosen. It did feel like this piece was just an opening (up to 0:50) and then the piece is actually going to start. You should make this longer, if only for the sake of the piece itself. Maybe instead of the arpeggio at 1:10 stay with that thought of giving it some more and definite movement, but elaborate on that. It's all so freely moving with a lot of sighs, but to balance things out I think it could really use a part with some definite movement. Maybe introduce a theme here or something...

Good job
