Where can I find a good WAV -> MP3 converter?

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me a link to a good WAV to MP3 converter? I want to be able to compress the audio files Finale creates of my stuff so I can send 'em to people.

CDex is good. Allows you to convert to a fair few other formats besides MP3 too.

I don't think it's what I'm looking for. CDex is capable of ripping CDs to various audio formats; I'm looking for something that can turn WAV files I already have on my computer into MP3s.

Yes, it can do that too. Open it up, then go to: Convert -> Convert WAV File(s) to Compressed Audio File(s).

I have used Audacity in the past - also I know that there's a Windows and Mac port...

I was about to recommend Audacity as well. I use it and love it. I have tried some other stuff that doesn't do it for me but Audacity was simple and did the job. I also use it to record choirs of myself singing "Row row row your boat" in a round.

Wavepad is also good for this. And obviously, free.

Googling Wav to MP3 will bring up a whole host of freeware.

Well, I went with Audacity and was very pleased. Thanks for all the suggestions, people!

iTunes.

Right click on the song. It should either say "Convert to WAV" or "Convert to MP3". Under preferences, you can change whether you want it to convert to WAV or convert to MP3.

db poweramp used to be free. It's a nice converter, maybe you can find some old version somewhere.

use LAME

Herosoft Audio Converter is what I use. It's pretty good. Free, unlimited conversions, and fast.

Download.com is where I got it from.

I use Razorlame, which is really just a frontend to Lame.

How to encode top quality audio-files using Windows, LAME, Ogg Vorbis

I got the settings I use off of this page, which is focused on getting the most professional wav-like sound from your mp3s. If you're wanting professional sounding mp3s, it's worth reading.
