Inspiration- It was last month at the M an T state finals for foot ball in Baltimore MD. It was a cold day but a warmer night. The aroma of the arena filled us with hope. But not everyone was happy. Where I am Im kinda a loner. As we were about to march onto the field I looked to the Crowd of people, my classmates, my peers. Then It all hit me, I had been taking abuse all year. People had been calling me names. People who I didn't know avoided me. They threw stuff at me every day. So as I looked over this crowd a melody struck me. With my instrument in hand and mouthpiece nearby I hummed the opening notes of this new composition. G-A-B….I became angry and sad. I didn't know what to think. I looked at all of the people that made my life hell. And shunned me for who I was. As I gazed out to them I crafted a melody and a story to tell for the ages. AND TO SHOW THEM WHO I AM!how this came to be- I originally was going to give this composition to a cellist with many elaborate double and triple stops and ringing dissonant major and minor chords. I started crafting this composition two days before the winter break.Written for- In mid november in a late night skpe call with Micheal Lewis and some of his friends from Georgia were talking. We mentioned exchanging solos.THIS COMPOSITION REPRESENTS MY SEARCH FOR SELF.

Thanks for sharing the inspiration/story. I think the piece reflects it really well, beginning with the melancholy theme that is soon replaced by more assertive, energetic music. The meter, especially in the beginning, is interesting; the strong beats don't always fall on the first or the third beats, and I think this lends some of the feeling that the music is freely flowing. I would have considered adding a pick-up measure containing the two eighth notes, but I see that later (m.12) the two notes become a more integral part within each measure.

I love the rhythms and the changing time signatures in the second section—so much energy! The single lines played on the piano, I felt, were also quite effective. The ending I also liked a lot, the single held tone on the trumpet accompanied by quiet, simple piano chords (in the MIDI file). It left a strong impression. It seems, though, that the score indicates three more measures after the MIDI ends...

Great piece!
