Prelude, Theme and Variations on a French Folk Song

you got to love this song!!(im french this is like one of the 5 classics songs that EVERYONE knows)

I think i could be developped a bit more with greater contrasts in melodies, rythms and so on...but its if you want short and simple its nice that way to!

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the comment. It is a great little song. It wasn't going to be alouette until I write my prelude and realised it sounded similar.

But yes I know what you mean it is simple stuff, i'm probable going to look into theme and variations more.

Thanks for the comment.

Not only the french know this song :)

I think you did a nice job here, keeping things sound very sweet and innocent, but still with enough variation to keep it interesting.

I have one remark though, in measure 14 you wrote the second part (3rd and 4th beat) differently from those preceding and following it. I did not like this. Maybe you could change this by 8vb the first C, and 8va the second C. I think that would fit better. As you wrote it now, the high register 3rd (on the 3rd beat: the C in left hand and the E in right hand) really stands out. Too much for my comfort.

measure 21 left hand: there are two eight-notes on the last beat, but in the recording (and everywhere else in your piece) there is a quarter-note.

May I make a correction. Alouette isn't a French folk song, but a *Canadian* one, the French kind, but still, Canadian.

A nice, pleasant piece to listen to :)

I think you could vary the left hand part a bit more. You had quite a bit of Alberti bass in there!

Since this is a piano piece, it'd be great if you use a wider range of notes - maybe you could put the melody into the left hand for another variation.

In a traditional T&V, the introduction/prelude to the T&V is more substancial in length and material and is markedly different from the rest of the piece. Also I don't understand why you restated the unaltered theme at the end of the piece. Hmm.

I really liked the third variation. It was starkly different and interesting. The others were pretty standard classical Variation fare.

Cool! I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. :phones:

Well when I originally set about writing the piece it was to have no link to alouette at all. its only after playing the first few bars that I recognised the similarities and thought I would link it in with alouette. That is why the prelude is so similar.

The alberti bass i understand i have used substantially and will probably look into changing that. This piece was simply a bit of fun that i rattled off quite quickly though but now that I have some nice feedback I may go back to it and change it.

Thank you everyone for the comments they are of great help.

P.S. i'll change the title if you want to French-Canadian Folk Song? or Canadian?

or just 'folk song'
