Sisters from Waterloo, Tennessee

Featured Replies

Lyrics for a duo mezzo and soprano.

This is a total farce. Had fun writing it while I was concentrating on my much more serious one act.

Sisters behind the curtain calling each other out as they rehearse a few strains of music from their act

Sister One:

You bob inanely off the beat

Create an insufferable clang and jangle

With zirconium plated brass knuckles

You call your golden earrings

Sister Two:

That radioactive searchlight

Screaming periwinkle and maroon

Situated crookedly atop your head

Is what you may call your hair

Sister One

All golden magenta sparkle

You dump on your lips

Sister Two:

Doesn’t mask the grey mottle

Four packs a day for forty years

Sister One (interjects):

(You've been nippin’ at the bottle.)

Sister Two:

Reveal with each fatal flash of your teeth!

(Sisters suddenly notice the curtain is rising. Quickly they turn to the audience with big smiles to start their act))

Sister 1

You’re super bright

Sister 2 :

You’re so punctual!

Sister 1 and Sister 2 (together facing the audience pointing to each other):

And you never lose your place!

(Sisters now face the audience with a determined demeanor)

We’re the singing sisters from Waterloo, Tennessee

Doyens of fearless taste are we

Together we conquer the world

with Pyrotechnical glee and intonational mystery!

Our stalkers are especially true

Our detractors we’ve trapped in the loo

Come quickly Come quickly

The discounts will expire soon!

Oooh lala, marsupial three

Higgity doo higgily eh lee

Updidi Updidi giddy up up

Sister 1 & Sister 2 (both lines sung simultaneously) : Life is nothing but a cantaloupe truck!

Life is nothing Goddamn I really have to pee!

I love this, it's crazy - yet subtle. Nice work.

Thanks --- I actually modified it slighty. Just to get better rhyme and pacing

Very Genesis-ish.

Nice stage idea, could probably do a bit more with the specifics. Once the instructions you say are done... they just...stand? I suppose it depends on how long the piece is.

Look at this, I actually commented on something on this rotting site.

Now I have country music stuck in my head - thanks Chris :-p

(I liked - nice work.)

Question: Are you from Tennessee?

  • Author

Nope .. I just used Tennessee as it is a fantastic word to sing - very euphonius and versatile.

Oh and I am from Jersey - the Newark - Jersey City area (which has been called the armpit of the world when the dumps were unregulated and you'd find cyanide pools in the swamps from illegal dumping, also called cancer alley due to all the chemical and refinery companies within and surrounding the area, more recently gumba land ... but there are a ton of nice things there and nice people)
