Symphony No. 1 in a minor 'The Tragedy' - 1st movement

Bravo! This first movement is quite "Tragic" as your title says. I am writing a symphony of my own right now. It isn't finished yet but I'll let you know when it is! A score to the your movement would be ever better! :)

Thanks Jared...

I would have preferred if you merged this. It is one symphony after all. You can do this by clicking "This is a Movement Holder" Then You define the general info of the symphony, and then add the movements, preferably with PDF score

It sounds as if this is a fairly well-written piece. Enjoyable to listen to. But I can't really comment on the orchestration because you didn't give a score. And yes, please use the movement option next time you upload. So I could very very clearly distinguish one theme, but there really was no counter-argument... It was all sort of one blend of one idea, but in a sonata movement (especially when using so much drama) you would put in a 2nd theme that was quite opposite of what you have to greatly increase tension. I couldn't really sense that here. Maybe the clarinet line? I don't know. Kind of tying in with this is the large amount of tuttis you have throughout the piece. Imagine a sonata taking the form of a literary plot diagram... you want the most drama and action to come near the end because you are drawing listeners into the rising tension. Just keep that in mind.

Not bad, though I'm sure if you progress in your writing you'll eventually come to the point where you'll question whether this is your Symphony No.1 or not. It made my day slightly better though, so thanks.

Keep writing! :)

(oh and btw, this reminds me of Mendelssohn's 1st Symphony A LOT)

I'm sorry, but I couldn't post up a PDF score. I'm using a free version of a notation program and I usually recorded bits and pieces before piecing them together. And I write the score by hand...
