January 31, 201115 yr I'm still new when it comes to different composing styles. So I decided to have a go at a string quartet, meaning this is my first one. I got the inspiration for it after getting Red Dead Redemption. The image I had was someone having to leave everything they once knew behind to set out on an important journey. Something along those lines. I'm unsure if I should've added the repeat. But I felt it would've been too short (all of my pieces are rather short...). Thoughts? PS: I know the instruments are kind of horrible. Garageband doesn't have solo strings, so I got some random ones off of Google :/ Leaving Home
January 31, 201115 yr Well, if you intended it as Game music (and it definitely sounds like game music), then the repeat as a loop is only logical :nod: I like the Adagio section a lot -- it's simple, clear, and it conveys the feeling you're after well. But the Allegro I have some issues with -- I think you're trying to go for a more epic, rousing feel here, but the harmony is a bit of a hindrance for that effect. Try working with some accidentals in this section for a more tense ride, maybe. Also, a wise fellow composer gave me good advice on a bad habit I had -- when you have a quick section, like a constant run of 16ths, it's generally unwise to suddenly stop the momentum with a whole note like you have for the end. Bring it down slower like a train which gradually comes to a halt, not a road-block which slams you to a stop. Perhaps make the 16ths merge into an 8th note triplet rhythm, then make those triplet form into 8th note rhythms, then bring it to a stop, or something to that effect.
