Sakura Sakura

A little tonal dissonance here, a little weird meter here, and an extended technique or so here for kicks and giggles. My first complete new composition in a couple years.Sakura Sakura (さくら) is a Japanese poem/song about the cherry blossom. My composition is based on this tune, but borrows no context or harmony from the original - I just used the tune as a basis for an original composition. Here is the original tune: This was read by a string quartet for my orchestration class. Unfortunately, a lot of it wasn't easily sight-readable for all of them. =/

Oh my gosh. I think I remember hearing this tune when I grew up in Japan. :blink:

That was really enjoyable. :lol: The mood change at the fast section was a bit striking but definitely not unpeasant: I like that sound. And the slightly "academic march" sounding section made me smile.

Nice use of color throughout! I especially like the pencil strumming. I don't understand the comment about bar 51 on the bottom of page 4. Do you mean measure 49?

Thank you for pointing out this error - I actually meant bar 50. I have changed that and altered the instruction. Check and see if you find it more clear.
