Piano Solo for a Lover

Featured Replies

Written with the sole intent of expressing the emotion that a certain person in my life instills in me. Unfortunately, I will probably never feel as though anything I write could possibly express what I feel.Pretty simple in its construction, perhaps a little bit too simple. The progressions are not particularly innovative, but hey, I've only been composing and studying music for about a year. I also feel like I might have ran the motive into the ground by around the halfway mark, and it gets a bit bland. Any suggestions?

A lovely little piece, however I would like to see some more chromaticism in your writing. I would have added a contrasting middle section, not to be nasty, but 70 bars of c major could get tedious. Keep composing and good work!

That's what I was struggling with... Everything I attempted to write as contrast sounded completely wrong. Perhaps I'll give it another shot someday. Thank you for the feedback.

Hello! If I may, I'd like to give some tips on 'contrast'...

Basically, there are three elements present in a work: harmony, rhythm and melody. I think the first step to creating contrast and variation would be to take the piece and, for example, try to change the melody. Try changing the chords from one hand to the other, having the melody play in other octaves, etc. etc. In another case, you could try using other chords, having secondary dominants, seventh chords, or you could have rhythms that change between triplets and quicker values... the key when starting out is to make small changes, and work out from that... hope this helped. :)
